At present when using multiple UVs, only the selected UV is used for rendering. Are there future plans to allow for rendering using more than one UV at the same time?
Based on the notes, you need to composite them through nodes. If I am reading correctly.

Not only. In mapping panel you can choose UV layer to map.
You don’t need nodes. Create a material with multiple textures, set map input to UV and type in the name of the different sets at the UV: field. Do it for each texture/UV set. At the Map to panel you can select the blending mode (it’s mix by default).
yeah, no nodes needed… it’s easy, even works in game engine!
Ah I see. I saw the notes about setting the UV name in the mapping panel but I guess it didn’t click that that is set on a per texture basis. Excellent, thanks!
