Musicracer

Hey guys,

we’ve just released our first game called Musicracer, a free rythm game for Mac + PC.
It creates a unique 3D racing track from mp3 (or ogg and wav) files for you to drive.
The game was done in Unity, I did the textures and design.

It’s completely free so please check it out: http://www.musicracer.de

wow that’s pretty cool! It’s be cooler if you made it in Blender, of course, but I liked it  What I didn’t like is the movement, you move way to fast across the track, when you press right or left you go really fast left and right, and I always crash into those spike things and it gets on my nerves really fast when I do.

Other than that, it turned out pretty cool, I really like the idea. I’ve always wanted to play a racing game while listening to music and picking up beats.

btw, how did you make the cubes appear where they were suppose to sound? That turned out really well… If I was able to hit them all XD

bye!

Hi,

thanks! The key controls are buggy at the moment, they have been a late addition to the game - it’s actually optimized for playing with the mouse/trackpad.
The beats are placed by a spectrum/beat analysis of the sound file, it’s done with the FMOD library.

… and I’m putting a little more blender in it with the next updates, promise.

Thomas

My norton 360 killed it.

Yeah, Norton is not our friend:

But then again, who is Nortons friend?
I heard it’s known to raise false alarms.

Maybe you can tell it to make an exception or something.

It did the same to the free release of emchwarrior 4 when I first downloaded it.

Great concept! BTW the controls were perfect on a trackball mouse.

If it’s not on your to-do list already, I would definitely throw in some kind of multiplier that builds as you don’t miss pickups and/or don’t hit reds.

Nice job though - coming up with an original concept is the hard part, and I don’t think I’ve seen that one before.

wow, this is quite possibly my favourite game atm. played until my wife got upset with me for using heavier and heavier music…

keyboard control was impossible, but once i used the mouse, phenominal fun!

You know this already exists right: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Audiosurf

I totally love the game, my kids were enjoying it too (even my wife did…)! Great game, thanks for sharing.

@GlaDOS sadly you are right… however THAT one has a cost  THIS one is free

Just frikking love! this game XD

did it with my favo song nightwish amaranth if you wanna try it just download it here http://www.aimini.net/view/?fid=SIe3MPL5TYCuRnpiqfZs it’s frikking nice to do it with that song XD

That’s great! I love it! matches the beat perfect!

wow i love this game. Great concept! i wish there were more games like this one

Looks good! Adding it to blender-games.com

hmm. It is nice but it is not a blender game it is a unity game.

Awesome game but it was impossible to control the ship (mouse and keyboard). Mabey add a slider in settings to control sensitivity? Also the in-game graphics are great but the default GUI lets it down. Doesn’t really work with big buttons. b.t.w. I noticed songs with quiet and loud sections don’t seem to fair too well. Anyway to break the song into sections so that a large section of not very loud music spawns blocks but when it gets louder same sort of no. of blocks are spawned?

Just been playing it on Ubuntu (via Wine, which made it a bit jumpy/laggy)
You’ve done a great job on the game - it’s lots of fun!
Are you planning on adding more features (things like power-ups)?

Hitting escape seems to bring up a pause menu with an option for that

Yeah thanks I noticed after a while. Really fun once I adjusted the mouse control. But better support for songs with high changes in volume would be great. Also how about adjusting the volume of the beep - so when you collect a cube it is quieter when the song is quieter and vice versa. Great game though. Also I would recommend making a few songs yourself which can ship with the game to allow for in-browser playback. It’s always nice to play a partly functioning demo of a game before download. Great fun though.
