Working on doing an as close to reality as possible render of my apartment. I’d love if anybody had some ideas how to increase realism as much as possible.
It’s come a long way, but it still needs a lot of work.

It’s a nice work, here. Yet, a bit dark, and also the shelves on first plan, need to be filled with something, i think. Maybe, if needed, try also to focus and blur other elements; i mean to have a focal center. Otherwise, good piece here.
The modeling and materials look outstanding I THINK. Very nice apartment by the way what little of it I can see. This might be the reality of it under that lighting but that doesn’t mean a good picture. So Addidi hit it right on the head you need a little ambient light here is also my view.
By the way our eyes in that lighting might be able to see everything in detail but F12 is in fact a camera of sorts. If bringing up the light level slightly is a departure from reality well they call it Graphic Art I believe. And, besides this looks to nice to be hidden like that.
After a nights sleep and cleaning these glasses let me just say I have nothing against low key renders. And, that means sometimes loosing all detail in a shadow. And, while this is very nice I still feel like the couch and stools might read a little better. But, then who knows without actually seeing it. And, right now this is really nice from where I sit. Hell, my suggestion might destroy the mood. : )
Thanks for the comments! I opened a window and let some ambient light in. I’m not sure I prefer the result.
@Addidi I’m planning to fill the shelves, yes. But that’s a ton of work if I’m going to do it right, so it gets deferred until I finish the major elements of the rest of the scene. A shorter focal length is also a good idea. Once I’m sure about the camera angles I’ll do it. For now the angles are restricted to parts of the image that don’t look too empty.
@theoldhgost thanks. One of the reasons I have used low light is to hide the fact that lots of things are missing. If I manage to add all the props (bottles on the bar shelf, books, little bottles in the bathroom and such a brighter image would be nice. I might also be biased in that the actual place looks better underlit.
Here is a render with the increased lighting.
Here’s some progress in the scene. As I began creating it back when I knew close to nothing about 3D modelling rendering now approaches my GPU’s total memory making it harder to progress. But in any way, here it is.
The floor could use some slight normal texture so the reflections aren’t too uniform
There is a slight bump on the last revision, I can increase the depth a bit. Thanks for the tip.
