My archer character

The character isn’t quite there yet, but I’m working up to it XD

I’ve been reluctant to post this thread but I thought I’d do it anyway. I’ve kinda finished the body of the character, the eyes and hair are still w.i.p (I’ve had hair rendering issues). Lately I’ve been modeling the armour which has been fun to do. I’m about to start on the side weapon (just a dagger). Then I will do the bow, the arrows and the quiver. And maybe even a headband if it works out. After I’ve textured everything and done tweaks I will do the rigging and final character renders. I may or may not do a low poly version too.

Oh yeah, C&C welcome

Mhmmm… nice…
But I think you’ve shown her head somewhere here

Thanks. It’s the same model from that hair thread, the model actually had a whole body then too. I didn’t wanna abandon the project and start a new head/body model because I really want to do a full character

A little update, I’ve modeled the knife, holster, and quiver (which was rather tricky)

Pretty good so far. BTW, who did you make the leathe maille. Did you Just duplicate. Oh, also the quiver strap isn’t quite what I would use for a strap. If you haven’t already, look at real ones for models.

Hey thanks  Also I was thinking about the strap, it’s tricky to find the right reference because I kinda wanted to match what they could have had in the 12th century.

To make the leather maille I used 3 array modifiers so I had all the little pieces there and then I just found that the best way to get the shape was by using a lattice with the right amount of points (and I also had to subdivide the original maille piece) and then work that to the shape of the body. I may or may not have used the solidify modifier too, I’ve been using that alot this project (it’s awesome :D).

Oh also I had to rotate the original maille piece to get the layered look you see there.

EDIT: I’ve finished all the modeling now, time to unwrap stuff

Her elbows and eyes seem strange a bit for me…

Yeah I thought the elbows seemed a little strange too. As for the eyes I just plain suck at doing them

sweet, i think i’ll follow this :stuck_out_tongue: looking great so far

Hey thanks  And I’ll have to leave some time to enter that contest too, I tend to focus on one thing lately at a time

same… i’ve got school projects all over the place, but my intervention model (just for fun) seems to be taking preference

I don’t think my texturing is all that great to be honest. But I’ve learned alot.

Now for the rigging, but I suck at it so I will use maybe, Sintels rig?

Darken her eyes, she looks spaceout’ed :D.
Even now, outfit looks great.
/me bows

You think so? I’m glad to hear that.

Also the eyes have been troublesome since the start, I spent some time earlier making them darker, guess I didn’t go far enough XD

They don’t seem so bright close up

Sorry for the long time no update, had a couple of other projects since the last post. I’ve redone the hair some now.

The hair and lighting is not final

I know the modeling may be final, but I am not thinking she is very attractive. I am trying to find some reference that looks close to her, but failing to find a straight on shot to compare with properly. Take a look at this ref, maybe it will illustrate the issues I see with the hair and the face.

I would play with the clump settings and maybe experiment with slight amounts of kink. I think going for a classic hairstyle will help loads, but her head is too tall to begin with imo, and no hair-do will fix that. Darken those eyelashes. Eye placement is wrong.

Yeah I completely agree, there was a lack of femininity to begin with, I mean its much better now but after some time I moved on. No harm in doing some proportional edits though

Also the hair is a bit of a mock up since I just wanted to have fixed hair (had rendering issues with it) first, but I will get on that, tomorrow probably, or later.

One thing though, what’s wrong with the eye placement in particular? Also thanks for this feedback!

To make her come to life you may need to add a specular or a wet to the eye.

the skin tone looks too even to me. I would try using a broader range of tones, especially a bit of redness around the eyes and ears.

Yellow is the fatty area’s of the face also, add different color to show the epi dermal and sub dermis…back scattering and surface SSS , maybe try Maq’s Tutorial for sss. or this one. http://www.limbopeak.net/blog/?p=1
