My Blender World Cup W.I.P. Thread

I decided to really participate in this years Blender World Cup. And since I going to need help with some stuff later, I figured I might as well post all of my progress.

My scene is going to have two characters:
A skinny thief and a large store clerk with a double barrel shotgun. I still have to think of a location and basic story, but I still have plenty of time for that.

I’ve only been working on these characters for the past 2 days, so there’s going to be a lot of changes. I’m just trying to get a feel for the characters.

Here’s the robber. I want to get a frightened look on his face since he’s gonna have a shotgun pointed at him.

Here’s the clerk. I barely put any work into this yet so it looks a little bit strange.

Some early crits would be great so I can get some ideas to changes stuff later.

I’ll try to update at least once every two weeks. Most likely I’ll update twice a week.
Thanks guys!

xD lol, the thought of that thief trying to rob that clerk is funny xP
the clerk could throw down the shotgun and say “these are the real guns” and then pose, would have the same impact of scared look on the thiefs face hehe

all in all good work so far ;o

Thanks! I’m gonna have the thief running with the clerk pointing the shotgun at him in the background.

haha, fun characters  I like the style you’ve got goin there

I’ve only got 2 suggestions:

  1. make the front part of the robber’s hat higher, so it doesnt look like his forehead has been flattened back
  2. move the back end of the jaw on the clerk closer to the ear, maybe a little lower too

good luck with your entry!

Thanks Jeepster! I’ll be sure to fix those things. I love your work btw!

I worked on my entry today.

I focused on making the clerk look better.
I’m not worrying about his hands now because I’ll probably have to redo them anyway for posing.

I also gave the robber some teeth and tweaked his cap and ears.

I also decided to give the robber a “Bang” gun.

The “Bang” texture is just for visualization.
This is the first gun I’ve ever made, so it still has a long way to go.
Next is to start on the clerks huge shotgun!

Great idea, and great progress! So early too.

Love the clerk. I wouldn’t mess with him. The bang gun is a nice touch.

I would rethink the running scene. Why not a gas station holdup or something like that.

Whatever you do, I’m sure it will be great, the more I think about it the running scene could be awesome given the amount of attitude you have already given the characters.

Thanks 3dementia!

I love the gas station idea! I wanted a type of store location but couldn’t think of a proper scene. Thanks!
The clerk looks like he would work at a gas station too.
I’ll be sure to keep updating regularly.

Looks nice so far. It will be nice to see it progressing and finished too!

hehehe :).

looks interesting . Good luck

Thanks guys!

I decided I’m going to have the thief running towards the door with his bang gun in his hand and maybe an empty bag of money, while the clerk is loading his shotgun.
Started making the clerks shotgun. Still open to a lot of changes.

I also put them side by side to show the scale difference.

I think I’ve worked on the characters and guns enough for now. It’s time to start on the gas station. This is going to take me a while to make so I’m not going to update until I have something that looks decent.

Okay, I’ve got some updates.

I made a cartoonish volkswagon for the gas station.

I also did a quick test with yafaray to see how it would render.

Here’s my progress with the gas station.

And I’m making a female bystander as an witness. I don’t know if she will be in the final render though.

That’s all for now. More stuff soon.

I really like this idea. I think the VW looks great and I love the style and look you are achieving. I can’t wait to see how this develops.

Thanks! I’ve already learned so much from doing this. I’m gonna join every year!

I’m not that good with stuff like this so keep or sweep… but it looks like the driver door could use a little work in the upper right hand corner

I put that there on purpose because I wanted a cartoon effect, so I just changed a few things to make it look more hand made. I’m going to put in very small imperfections like that to get more of a self made feeling. But if it doesn’t look good in the final render I will change it.

Today I focused on the gas station. Mainly adding extra stuff to fill up the scene. I’m starting to run out of ideas, so if you guys have any feel free to comment.

So I mainly added stuff in the gas station, a fence, and some electric poles.

I also added some stones (or bricks, I haven’t decided yet) to the road area.

Inside I added a counter, a cash register and a mug. I also added a shelf with some random stuff on it.

And finally I added some lights under the roof area, and I altered the front support beams.

Because I’m going to be extremely busy for the rest of the week, I won’t be able to get to my computer until Sunday, so once I have more work done I’ll be sure to update again.

Small update.
I started working on the woman’s hair. I had to sculpt it in ZBrush because I my tablet won’t work in blender, and I wanted to get a sculpted look to the hair. It looks like a big mess right now, but once I retopologize it it’ll look a lot cleaner. I’ll most likely end up with a type of hard surface style for the hair.
I don’t think her face matches her hair, and I like her hair more than her face, so I’m going to have to change her face around to match.

More soon!

DUDE! I love the look you have with this. I really like the characters and the hair you are making - and maybe just a little rounder on the girls face - i think it matches pretty good as is if it was just a little rounder.

Your models are superb!!

Thanks! I completely agree with you. I’ll round out her face and see if it helps.
