So far, I’m not working on shading, but only on lighting.
Here’s what I have so far, along with my lighting setup.
Model is not mine, it belongs to Jeremy over on CGTalk.
The lighting setup goes like this:
AreaLight1 (at the top. outside the window)
Energy:4.9
Color: White
Distance: 20
AreaLight2 (Outside the door)
Energy:10
Color:Yellowish
Distance:26
Then some dark blue AO (not much).
And the script I’m working from goes like this:
MEG glides through the house, precisely following Hank’s
directions to the washroom. She passes through A WELL-APPOINTED
KITCHEN. MEG pauses to glance at A BOTTLE OF VINTAGE MERLOT
sitting unopened on the table. She smiles in anticipation and
continues through the moonlit expanse.
First off, what are those white rectangles? They look like windows letting in sunlight or something, which doesn’t make too much sense at night. If they are windows, maybe add a soft bluish-white lamp to simulate light from outside. Whatever they are, though, they’ll be putting off some sort of light if they’re that bright.
You need to simulate some more light bouncing around, to illuminate those black patches a bit. Also, depending on what type of mood you’re going for, you might brighten the area lights a bit more.
I think I might go have a crack at that lighting thread. 8)
