this is a test render of my first ever attempt at anything 3d. it’s a mitsubishi eclipse 2005 convertible that i decided to mod with a body kit. lighting setup is not so great i know, but it’s a work in progress. i am trying to figure out blender without using anything more than the manual. I learn better that way. If i learn something from a tutorial, I either forget it all the time or i use the same thing for everything. so here it is.
Looks good so far, although until you sort the lighting out I can’t see all the hard work you’ve put into the details
ok orked out a few of the kinks in the lighting, changed the window tint a bit, added the side skirt and rear bumper. lighting is still not where i want it just yet, but it will do for now, and as you can see need to tweak the tint on the windows. it’s a bit too much. also need to tweak the location and size of the neon lights underneath also need to do the rims spoiler and head lights as well. and of course the rest of the scene lol. also need to fix the ground texture and bulge the tires as they should be with the weight of the car on them. so alot to go yet, but not bad for about 15 to 20 mins a day time to work on it if that. and also for being my first 3d model ever XD

third render so far. added a few things and adjusted the lighting again. hopefully i get it where i want it soon lol.
Very nice work for your first project. I just wanted to say keep going. Finish this and then start another, don’t look back. 3d takes time, and patience, you have accomplished a lot already.
I agree with ‘3dementia’ - even though it may not be the best car ever done is blender, it is definitely a good one for someone’s first project. My first car (done without a blueprint) was a hell lot worse than this.
But keep doing more and more of blender, and like anything that you do more and more of, you will get better with it.
thank you everyone for your support. I am simply loving this program and the freedom to create literally anything i want. (Which at the moment is a awesome car as i no longer have one lol) I will continue to post updates on my current and any future models as i can be assured. So once again thank you for the feedback, and i truly appreciate it. And here is an update of what I have gotten done so far.

well here is the car itself. i am basically done with the modeling for it. i am now working on the rest of the scene. I know there isn’t much difference in this render from the last, but here are the things i added. I added the back seat, color to the interior, and also added the inside door panels and speakers. not happy with all of the textures, but i will be tweaking them as i build the rest of the scene. mainly i was more going for the paint job on the car and it’s decals for now. so a lot of work to be done on the interior of the car’s textures. also working on figuring out how to make the decals on the ouside of the car look more airbrushed on and not so “stickerish.” also the background image i am using for it’s sky the two distant mountain hill things will be covered by the rest of the scene. I look forward to all of your c&c. Please be as harsh as possible as i feel it’s the best way for me to learn. Also feel free to make suggestions and i will see what i can do about incorporating them into the scene. Btw the scene will be the car at a kind of deserted gas station with a female character i am working on now leaning against the tail of the car lighting a cigarette with a street lamp lighting the car and her.
Looks fantastic! The car seems like it’s floating a bit off the ground, maybe needs more shadows … otherwise, very inspiring to new Blender folks … keep up the great work
Danalou thanks for the input. i was thinking the same thing about it looking a bit floaty. I think once i compress the tires with a lattice that should help fix that. also my pics on here are all a bit smashed looking, but the actual renders i made aren’t. How can i post them on here so that they don’t smash up like that? i have checked the jpeg for them on my computer and they look like they are supposed to proportion wise.
i am creating a female character as i said for the scene. this is the wire frame of her head. any tips on how to make her “prettier” (she seems a bit too manly or something to me)and also how the topology for the body should work would be appreciated.
Wow, that’s a great head mesh, but yeah … it’s a dude
I’d use some reference shots of a woman’s head, and try to tweak the mesh to fit; since you seem to have the topology about right (IMO), it shouldn’t be too hard to alter it for the female form.
Check out blendercookie.com, they have some great tutorials on topology there
yeah the topology for the face is pretty easy really since virtually everything irl that you would wear on your face follows it naturally. (ie. surgeon’s mask, goggles, etc.) so i just figured the topology should follow how those things work. as for the tweaking bit, that’s where the trouble is. lol i used a reference photo for this head lol. maybe i just picked a woman who was a bit more manly then most not sure, but how hard do you think it would be to tweak it to another reference photo?
Here’s an example; I have a basic head mesh with a woman’s face as the background (googled it):
I have a single vertex selected, and have Proportional Editing turned on (circled in red); moving the selected vertex will affect nearby vertices like a magnet. You can do the same with edges or faces … just tweak the mesh to fit the background image.
yeah that’s what i figured i would do as well just trying to figure out how hard it’s going to be to keep it from over moving and such the extra verts. so that the in between where i have moved things begins to look really squished or misshapen or something.oh well nothing to it but to do it and find out always have that nice reopen feature if it becomes to messy lol. thanx again for the tip. now i just have to figure out the topology for the rest of her as well lol. oh and also how the texturing and materials are going to work for her skin. that is going to be fun lol
ok… I have a VERY hard time believing that a car that good is a very first project!
it is my first project actually. I am going to take that as a compliment. it seems to me to feel like i was kind of meant to do this kind of thing as the modeling part at least comes pretty easy. and not to mention most of the car was done deleted re done until i thought it looked right. trust me the each part of that car was made and deleted at least 4 or 5 times. I am a perfectionist in all my forms of art. this one just seems to be easiest for me. though texturing and painting seems to be a pain lol. and organic models are killing me lol.
i redid the head mesh and she does look more female, but also a bit like the female from that movie splice as well imo. not sure what i am doing wrong really, oh well. maybe human modeling isn’t my bag so to speak lol. also extended her neck and gave her a shoulder area and the start of her torso
any ideas as to why the mesh matches the reference photos in the wire frame from both views, but looks so almost alien or something? the photos i used are from 3dsk or whatever that sites name was again lol so very high quality just not sure what i am doing to mess them up lol
Just thought I’d say nice work for a first project! If you want to fix the Moire effect on the roof of the car try oversampling the material. Also, the render looks alien because the wireframes appear to be in orthographic mode while the actual render seems to have a very sharp camera angle with an odd perspective.
