My first Blender model

Hi, My name is Aniruddha Hardikar. I am a digital artist from Pune, India.

I have been using 3ds max since 3ds max V4, I completed a course authorised by discreet™ around 2003, which I was rather proud of back then.

Only recently I decided to shift from 3ds max to Blender for the sheer reason that I just couldn’t find recent releases of max efficient at all.

I am starting to learn blender with a clean slate, and really enjoying it for the past couple of weeks. I started by playing around with the interface and watching a few video tutorials for the first few days to get familiar with blender.

Here is my first model in blender, I decided to start making a Human head model right away, to get familiar with the core modeling tools in blender. So far it has been one day’s work, with my time spent mostly in finding out familiar tools and habituating myself to the keyboard shortcuts. I have not previously modeled in blender otherwise. I will be posting updates as I keep finishing the model. I am not using any reference whatsoever.

Please go ahead and let me know what you think!

I find myself lucky to be on this awesome forum!

Wow, way better than my first model, that’s for sure! Nice work!

Thanks!

it looks pretty good, but it has a weird shape in my taste. btw, I can tell that it is made from a cube :stuck_out_tongue:

Worked some more on the head. Here’s an update.

Several adjustents to topology, almost completely new modeling near the eyes.

Hope it looks less like a cube now

hi, my first model was also a human head…your i think looks very good! Maybe the side of the head should be a little more circular?
Great topology too, you seem to have got the hand of blender already

are you going to animate it?

I might not animate it, but I might rig it up. I am mostly looking at this as modeling excersize.

Hey, I think u picked up fast…!!

Hey that is really good the topology looks pretty good also. I think though you are missing one edge loop that wraps around the front or right under the chin and follows the jawline up the side of face to top of ear then breaks off to the forehead and wraps the back of the head towards the top of the ear. Im no expert on topology yet either. Ive been learning blender for about a year in my spare time. There is some good topology overviews at cgcookie.com under their blender site. I dont animate either so i think really the loops are mainly for if you ever take the model to that level. but the loops overall also help to model the shape a little easier. A lot of your loops look strong to me like the eyes nose mouth loops are good to go i think. Just go over the review it should boost you up a notch from what you have though. hope it helps cyas.

the previous comment about it looking a bit wierd i think is due to the fact that you havn’t done that most hateful part of the model, the ears. ( i hate modelling ears, they always manage to go thouroghly wrong!) the model looks good so far though, i hope you take it a bit further and use it in a scene. that wil be nice to see
