My first face model

Well, I’ve finally done it, I’m doing the thing I’ve been dreading for a while. But It’s been a project in the back of my mind that I knew I would have to do eventually, so after studying topography and making a few (really crappy) preliminary models, I’m finally getting somewhere.

I got help with the topography from here:
And references from here:

As you can see, there are still lots of spots that look really bad and need changing.

Comments and crits welcome!

I think its very nice…looking forward to see update. Did you use some tutorial or scratch?

Looks good so far. Better than my attempts at faces.

Yeah, I updated the first post with the tutorial and the references.

I’m following the tutorial mainly to get help with the topography, I don’t know what I would have done without it.:o

Small update, still looks like a crappy theater mask though. :frowning:

Crits welcome, as always.

Another update, lots of little changes to the shape.

I’d still love some input!

i would give him more defined eyelids. but other than that i am awfully impressed with the face so far. well done. i would give it a quick texture test.

Oh man, now I know I’ve done a bad job.

It’s supposed to be a female! :stuck_out_tongue:

oh…well uh… it does look kinda female. i think it happens to look more like a young boy.

also might i say what a fine lighting job. and your composition is spot on

Just a small update with a few tweaks. Hopefully I can find some time to work on this tomorrow.

(From the side, so you can see the nose better. And it doesn’t look as bad from this angle. :p)

Another update. Fixed a lot of ugly parts, and fixed the camera so that it wouldn’t look like the nose was jumping out of the screen.

But now I’ve hit a snag that I wasn’t thinking ahead about… In the references I’m using, the hair completely covers the ears, and covers almost all of the neck, but I was hoping to make a full head model. Looks like I totally botched that though.

Ah well, I’ve learned a ton with this, and next time I’ll be sure to think about the hair before I start a big modeling process.

why stop? use a different reference and continue on! personally i liked the face better before…

make the eyes a bit closer.

excellent stuff! I like framedworld’s idea - would try to finish the model would be a good excercise.

Well, since someone bumped this thread I’ll give a little status update. I AM going to finish the whole model(Thanks for the encouragement, Framedworld! :)), but I’ve been very busy at the moment with other projects and school/work etc.
I’m also making some changes to the topography, mixing different references and experimenting with different layouts.

As soon as I get a chance, I’ll make some updates!

EDIT: As for making the eyes a little closer, I don’t think I’m going to. I’ll be working on the shape of the eyelid/eyebrow area, but I’ve got the spacing correct with the reference pictures.
