This is my second attempt at a head, the first was pathetic and unworthy of being posted…this one is not great, but I’m pleased with it because I’m not much good at organic modelling at this is the first real success I’ve had with it. It’s full of many, many errors and flaws, so any suggestions for improvements would be very welcome !
That’s very good for a first head, but I’d suggest you make it a bit taller. Stretch it out a bit. I’d also work with the lips a bit. The texture looks good. I can’t even remember what my first heads looked like, but the definitly weren’t like this. Good work!
I also say it is a good start… head modelling is hard, not only for you…, but you schould check some head photos (or medical anathomic pics… If you need I can post some links), and use one as backgrounpick by modelling (it help…), the eyes (apple) are, perfect well done. The hair is dupliwert or fiber…
The top of the head seems a little too wide for the rest of the head, but good quite good none the less. Next time take a few ref images and put then in the background to insure proper porportions in the end. This site has good ref images. http://www.fineart.sk Remember to keep at it…
Thanks for the encouragments !
I made the head vertex by vertex with two reference pictures of me (face on and profile) in the background. Thankfully I do not look like this…I had to guess where to put a lot of the verticies because the pictures aren’t the clearest in the world, but it is still a much easier method than any others I’ve seen/tried. I guess it’ll get easier and better with practise.
The eyes are from the Pixar eye tutorial / Blendo model at Weirdhat’s character site.
The hair was done extremely quickly (cos I was getting impatient and stopped trying to be exact) with Ripsting’s Fiber13 script.
Thanks for the site link, LOST&FOUND, it looks very useful ! Albeit rather strange…
