So, its a big Project. I plan on making the Jedi Temple of Coruscant, because many have tried and given up, and I can’t find a completed version anywhere. I figured I’d start with the front entrance, so, this is my first render of the front staircase, using simple shapes and no textures yet.
I’d love to hear feedback and how to improve the lighting here, as well as tips and tricks. I’m new to this program, but ambitious, and very excited about this project.
That’s a very cool and ambitious project, but this just can’t be a first project. Your first project must be a glass or a table ^^ . If you directly start with this you’ll be disappointed and you’ll give up the entire project. There’s like thousands of tutorials out there on the internet. So practice again and again with smaller projects then go back to this one. That’s the better advice I can give you. I hope I’ll see a freacking great Temple of Coruscan in a few months/years on this forum !
I wish you luck on this project…Try and get as many reference images of the temple as you can, there should be quite a few concept images floating about. Also, if you are going to use blender internal, 1 spot lamp or point lamp isn’t going to cut it. Add some ambient occlusion, and use some area lamps, or even a sun lamp for the lighting. Also, make sure you shade things smooth (spheres) and try to think in detail about how you are going to model each thing…
This is an ambitious project you have here, so make sure your basic knowledge of modelling is good to go, and a basic understanding of lighting, and you should be good to go
Welcome Jsimmons in addition to what Peter18 advises I would also say try doing a few quick and dirty prototype versions end to end - you’ll find that you pick up loads of new skills with each iteration.
Thanks for the support. I’ve got tons of reference images, though some seem to be inconsistent. I know this is an ambitious project, and I’ll be posting rendered images as I go for your critique and advice. I’ll be doing it area by area, learning various processes as I go before I put it all together. This is gonna take a while, but I also hope to see this building grow.
Here’s the same scene as before, still the simple shapes, but I took some of your advice, (Smooth shading on the statues) and made the lighting similar to the reference picture I used, and I made the stairs smaller, more accurate to the actual scale of the picture. So, there you have Step 2 on the Jedi Temple Main entrance!
