my first render uploaded online

i have made a model of a twinlinked ballista. i took the blue prints of a polybolos(semi-automatic ballista) and build it in 3d without the reload meganism. the reload meganism was looking dull , so i cut them away.
well plz tell me what i can do better, etc. i tink its looking stuppit atm. so what can i improve? for high ressolution: http://pinguinlord.webs.com/polybolos.png

hey i got some tips( at least i hope they help)
-use more than one texture, i guess you used 1 texutre for all the wood so it all looks the same and it looks like one big lump of wood.
-maybe put some nails in it so it looks more realistic
-your image looks a bit blury, idk why is this on perpuse?

You’re well on your way and it’s nice to see that you didn’t shy away from modeling the grass. It looks as though you’re using a procedural texture for the wood. That’s okay sometimes if you know how to tweak the procedural textures for a more realistic appearance and if you’re careful about how you map them to the individual parts of your model. If you do a Google Image search for Dark Wood Textures you’ll get a ton of images that you can apply as image textures to the individual parts of your model with the grain running the proper direction. You’ll have to Unwrap each of the parts, but Blender’s UV unwrap feature makes that trivial. You can unwrap a few parts at a time if that makes it easier. Use the GIMP or Photoshop to create the image maps and you’re good to go.
