My First Scene

This is the first scene i’ve made… please comment on it

the napkin is kinda weird… and the food things are particles… and they don’t look that great, but here it is

and don’t worry, i’m not a druggy or suicidal or anything. . started off as a dinner scene, and then the liquid reminded me of something toxic… and then i kept going…

Ok, nice start

Looks like you forgot the SetSmooth + AutoSmooth on the pill container

Light is nice, but materials are to be tweaked, they all look plastic.

Plate edges suffers from being low poly, you can either re-model it or go for a SubSurf.

Glass & liquids are hardest in Blender, but an Envmap on them, and on the fork, and maybe on the plate can make wonderful things.

Keep it up

Stefano

Definitely a nice start. I recall some of my first blends, and they weren’t this good.

Just do everything S68 says, cause I can’t see anything else wrong, and this will be much better. For the env map, there are a few tutes in the list in the Q&A forum, and I also have one on my website.

Good luck with it.

BgDM

maybe raise the spec on the table, and reduce it on the cigarette. This really outdoes my first renders (think plane with an image mapped on it  )

Nice work!
I think my monitor needs some colour adjusting because I couldn’t tell what the greern and purple thing at the top of the plate was… I’ll have to readjust and come back! making the pill bottle and plate subsurfs will probably make a huge difference. and maybe making the pill bottle see-through plastic… Most of the pill bottles i’ve ever used have been transparent and orange.
Good job on the napkin, man! much better than my table cloth

overall nicely done, you just need to adjust the materials/textures a bit (the ciggies have too much spec), and other tiny things. very good work for the first coupld blends.

hey…

thanks for the comments…

i’m working on environment maps and textures right now… env maps are hards

:-? , but i’ll hoepfully get em soon.

GR8red, … i was going to give the container an orange texture, but i didn’t want the picture to have too much of that color… cig butts, orangish wood, container… i’ll see what i can do

does anyone have suggestions for what to do for the little crumbs on the plate? i’m not digging the particles…

thanks again

Model a small crumb, parent it to the particle emitter, select the emitter and go the the animation buttons (that’s the one with the squigly arrow) and press Dupliverts. This will replace your particles with the crumb model. Make sure you leave the original crumb in the same layer. If you hit the button to the left of Dupliverts (should say ot or rot, depending on the size of your screen) to introduce different rotations.

If this doesn’t work you can always make a few copies and place them manually.

Goo

maybe instead of unidentifiable crumbs, a piece of food, such as half of a hot dog or something? wouldn’t be hard to model or texture. or something stuck on the end of the fork?

wow, thats cool… thank you, it worked

now on to env maps :x

ok… i’ve been trying and trying to add Reflective surfaces using environment maps to the dish… but, it never turns out right… i’ve follwed tutorials, and i understand those, but this one seems a little trickeie… could someone please guide on how to place the empty? and i also tried working on the fork too, and that was hopeless… thanks for any advice…

To add an empty:
1 Put the cursor where you want the empty to go
2 push spacebar
3 go to add
4 click empty (should be under metaball)
5 your empty is placed

keep up the good work.

That´s rather good, but I would use more subsurfs. The green button on the left in Edit-menu (F9) for meshes. That would probably make the napkin look even beter! Good luck and blend on!

thanks Detritus… i actually remodeled the whole napkin… the first time was just subdivisions, and then proportional vertex editing… yesterday i was browing the forum and read about fractally subdividing, and it worked out better…

kbitz…

i know how to add an empty and do very basic environment maps… i know planar and spherical… but now i’m just confused… where would i place the empty to get the plate to have a reflective surface? i put it in the center, and it’s not working… and i tried giving it the same cords as the camera, with an opposite Z, and it’s not working… i’m so confused! anyone, please help…

thank you

well i just finally learned env maps completely (well, thouroughly), and some things to try:

  1. Make sure the plate is on a different layer, as well as the surface the plate is on… so that the empty can see just the objects without the plate/surface in the way.

  2. i forget what axis it is, but have either the ‘x’ or ‘z’ axis of the empty point through the middle of the scene, at the objects in the scene, instead of facing into the space below everything.

well that should help, but it could be wrong… im gonna do some envmap testing right now, tell me your results!

ok… i can’t get it to work… i’m just gonna post the link to the blend

plese, someone help…

i gave it a blue sky just so i could see reflections… please help someone, or identify the problem…

thank you… sorry for the annoyances :-?
