my little tower

hey peoples this is a scene done completely in blender in cycles, except from the background which is just an image over layed on top of my cloud where the lighting is comeing from, everthing else like the building, lightning and cloud where modeled.

im not really sure what building it is that ive modeled but i was going for the scary kind theme

anyone have any comments or suggestions on how can i make my scene better if it needs improving

Looks pretty good:) Is the cloud background both behind and in font of the tower? I ask because I can see the cloud texture either through or in front of the lower portion of the tower. Is that intentional? Also because of the lightening above and behind the tower I think you should try adding a light source to replicated the flash of lightening. Like a harsh white-blue-purple color to match the lightening would be cool. Maybe could also add some dead trees at the bottom of the tower which would be visible in the render at the bottom to the right and left of the tower (just the tops of the trees though) Just a few thoughts:)

Happy Blending!

well first the tower, being able to sort of see through it was not on purpose, for that i over layed the image im the background over the top of the tower to give it the dark cool looking blue colour and i was trying to get some kind of mist effect at the same time. im not sure why the bottom part of the building looks transparent but is there a way to make the bottom part look transparent but keep the effect its got. and yes i totally agree about the trees and the purple lighting would look awesome =D

and yes i just relised you are write, the image in the background is in front and behind

ok so ive improved my scene by quite a lot, ive replaced the previuos cloud with a cloud that looks more releistic, ive changed the sky to a purpley blue cause it seems to look niceer that way, ive also added some dead trees and changed the positioning of the background image over the tower so that part of the tower dont look transparent and ive changed the positioning of the lamp thats sitting where the lightning is coming from.

Trees don’t really look like that.
use a reference.

yea i know, i wasent sure how to model a tree so i used an addon the created the trees using curves, then i just duplicated it a bunch of times. probly wasent the best thing to do

It’s looking better:) The lighting I think is still whats hurting it the most. You should have a darkish blue gray light shinning directly on at the front of the tower wich mimics bounce lighting from the sky (also could call this fill lighting so nothing is completely black). Then since the lightning is way up in the sky and looks to be behind the tower your current light should also be positioned behind the tower and set the intensity way up like three times what it is now. This will give a bit of bright rim light and mimic the lightining flash.

Did you use the “sapling” addon? If so, it looks like you just need to add some additional levels of branches and also leve the branches a lot narrower. You could even just use the default tree but add more levels of branches. I’m going to be posting a tut on tree creation and posting it in the Blending Nature thread in the WIP forum here that will really help you so keep an eye out for that:)

Happy Blending!

thanks derek for all the comments, and yes ill have a play around with the lightning. yes you are wright i did use the sapling addon and yes you right i probably should add more levels of branches

hows this, ive tried to mimic the flash, i probly could make it a little stronger
