My Massive Shield Ship Project with 2 Million Vertices

Hi all,

This has been a ongoing project for a while and I wanted to start this thread to make sure I try to finish it! The concept is from a obscure star wars comic in which these special ships transport goods around these super hot suns, thus they need these huge shield like structures to cool the metal. I have been using the discombobulater add-on extensively and adding tiny details throughout hence the polycount. Click for more detail! I will post some close ups soon…

Looks amazing so far, loving the detail! If I had more experience in blender I would offer some sort of guidance or advice but I really don’t; looks great to me!

I think for what your are doing it might be bunch more efficient to do the “sculpting with UV’s” technique. You can read about it here: http://www.blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?273033-Sculpting-with-UVs-and-displacements

Great start though!

Good work, reminds me of the icarus ships from the movie Sunshine

Thanks guys! I actually like the discombulator script a lot, but I will look into that method @LiquidApe. @DDD that’s really weird!

Here are some close ups!
