thanks man but i havnt heard any constructive critisism just “good jobs”. I’m not trying to be a bitch, i just want to make this as accurate as possible and if any one has any advice on stuff i can improve/change that would be great. Thanks always!

I dont really have any constructive criticism, i just wanna say awesome start
and, if no one is criticising then that just means your doing everything right so far
The one thing I can say is that since your going to be really detailed
your gonna end up with a really high poly count (whats it at now?)
so are you planning to normal/bump map anything?

hey man thanks. No i will be modelling this in full detail. I will check the poly count tonight at home, but my computer can handle high polys. It won’t be a problem.

i think its high time for an update…head is almost complete. Just a little more work on the eyes and then the inside part. But all the plates on the outside are pretty much done. Also attached one pic of just the face for your viewing pleasure.

Your Optimus Prime looks great! It might be too late for this, (Maybe you could enter just a bust), but you should know about this 80s Cartoon modeling challenge at CGTalk.

I have a feeling this would look awesome with a decent texture!

No crits so far from me. Looking good.

@ padfoot: CG Society has specifically stated that Transformers is off limits for the challenge…

That’s strange. I guess that’s because it’s a franchise that lasted past the 80s, or something. Too bad.

Post a few simple renders with AO on and it will look a billion times better and will also show the detail

How are you modeling this? I box-model everything, and cut out shapes with booleans.

You’re mesh looks incredibly clean, next to one of mine. :slight_smile:

Actually most of my modeling is plane-by-plane. I find box modeling gives you far too many edgeloops, therefore too many verts. I often start with a string of vertices and then extrude/rip/cut them out. Or I make a plane and extrude that. The problem with Booleans is you get lots of weird faces. To make holes in your mesh, it is easier to delete one face, and then with edgeloops and the knife make more rounded

Did you remember to model the mask? Remember it can fold inside the helmet. He also have some weird stuff in his mouth when it is open.
