My new Blend Gallery Website [NEW FORMAT UPLOADED 01.07.04]

I will be working on updating it massively over the next day or two. I have tons of new pieces to add to it, and really want to get it up to date.
New format: All graphics were made in Blender3D 2.31a (with raytracing), except text added in Photoshop.
Hope you all like it.

d’oh! i forgot the url. http://www.jfnetservices.com/jsblend

Mhm. Overall your homepage needs some brightness. Everything looks like seen through dense fog. Add some highlight here and there.

But its a great start. Improve from there and it will become phantastic.

Looks good Jay  Nice landscapes in there, and “Flower” is beautiful.
Best of luck with your new gallery.

jay, i hate raining on peoples parades, but sometimes it cant be helped. the website just isnt doing it for me bro. it looks too “1995"ish. Meaning, its real hard on the eyes, the graphics look like 'hey, i just discovered how to do rollovers, woo!”, etc. some good examples of modern website design can be found just from some of the forum locals, endi’s web site rocks, @ndy’s web site rocks, even the blender3d.org site is dope. try to limit the flashyness and go for a more modern look

Robertt: Thanks man. I love the terragen program, and so do my parents. My mother has tons of my work hung in her office. lol
Enroper: I was going for a simplistic design for this. I have been making websites for over 2 years now. I know many styles and many ways to go about graphics. I thought of having the gems on chains for the navigation, and went with it. You can check out my other sites through the sites page at http://www.jay-eff.com. This is the style I decided to go with for the gallery. I have over 13 sites, and like to keep things fresh.

sorry to say this, but I’m with enroper, it does look very amateurish and also if you test it in mozilla/firebird/netscape (any gecko browsers) the background image on the right tiles and looks pretty bad. Also I don’t think the flash navigation is nessicary(eep) you could probly just do that with CSS or Javascript rollovers.

why did you use flash for buttons that could’ve been done with normal html/javascript ?

oh, I liked the yellow flower picture!

i think i may change the nav to not have mouseovers. i live far out from the closest town, and because of that I run a 56K modem. I get about 3-4K/sec on it, so I have problems with big images on sites. The mouseover images were too big, and took too long to load, so I made it Flash. But then the Flash swf file was 150K, so I may change that later today.
I know css and javascript very well, as you can tell from my other sites, but this was the style I choose for this. I may just change the format. It is different from all my other sites, and takes too long to load for me. Go figure.
basse: it seems that everyone loves that flower. my girlfriend did. i printed a full 8x10 photo-quality version for her.

I changed the format all together. This format is much better, and works in most browsers I tested. The color scheme came from the “Flower” piece in the Gallery. Everyone seemed to like it, so I used it’s colors for this. Hope you like.

works in most browsers? well it is giving Konqueror a hard time!
why all the java pop-ups for image view? they’re annoying, IMO. don’t see what was wrong with plain html page, and a link to the main gallery page, or let the user click the “BACK” button themselves.
I can only see the top two rows of images, and the top edges of the 3rd row. I am guessing there’s more, but like I say, formatting all messed up.
Art work (in gallery) is quite nice, actually, but I think you wanted critique of page design, not art

Konqueror? Where can I download that for Windows ME. I have the following browsers: Mozilla Firebird (latest version), Netscape 7, and IE5. I need to get the most used ones so I can test it in more. The gallery page is made to scroll after 220px height. There should be a scrollbar there. It works in NS FB and IE. Sorry. I can try to fix that.

I don’t like it - the whole buisness is too small - maybe make it more like CGtalk galerry?

it’s a browser for KDE. KDE is a desktop for Linux. It is not available for windows.

oh. then i probably cannot fix it. the problem is that your browser isn’t XHTML1.0 and CSS compatible. Or at least not completely. Sorry. I will see what I can do about getting the Konqueror for Windows. Maybe I can find it somewhere, elsewise: “sorry” is the most I can do.

[edit]
I am checking out the Konqueror Site right now, and it says it is HTML4.0 compliant. This means it may have problems with some stuff that is newer on the web. All my sites are usually XHTML1.0 (HTML5 basically) compliant. This one is one of those XHTML sites.

@ner: I checked out the CGTalk Gallery. I know this is sad, but I have never gone there before. :-? I liked their layout too, so my gallery style has been updated with bigger images and a different way of printout. Also, pop-ups are gone. Now it opens in the main window.
