OK, I gotta brag a bit but I’m building a new system that I should have together Monday afternoon (waiting for the last parts) and it should totally smoke for Blender & other apps I use.

CPU: Intel i7-2600k
Mobo: Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3
Graphics: Gigabyte Radeon HD 6850
HD: WD 500gb
Mem: Corsair Vengeance Blue 16GB
PSU: Antec NEO ECO 620W
Case: CoolerMaster Elite 430
OS: Win7 & others

This thing cost <$900 for parts. I’m planning on upgrading to a SSD for my boot drive but I thought I’d let the prices drop a bit more.

Sweet! Though the OS seems to be a bottleneck, and you went a bit overboard with the RAM. 12GB is more than anyone will ever need, and 16 GB in my opinion is just a waste of $$$.
And did I hear you say less than $900 dollars???

Yep. MicroCenter is a wonderful place.

Honestly, it was only $50 difference between 8gb & 16gb so, what the hell.

I’m really jealous.
OL, I’m not so sure. It’s always good to have a lot of ram. Blender runs much better with more ram, and I guess it’s good when your graphics card has a lot of ram.

While you wait for SSD prices to drop, you might want to try loading your entire filesystem into RAM (since you have 12 gigs, and you’ll never utilize more than 6, even on a hog like windows) … SSD performance may seem somewhat sluggish after that experience. :wink:
