My object collapsed!?! >:( Large Screenshots. )

How does that go to the fallowing? All I did was render the sceen and got some really screwed up pictures, so I start looking at the objects and it all of a sudden seems to randomly create edges. I can undo (which is why the good pics look incomplete, I undid several things) but when I render again it does the exact same thing. It started minor, with a persistent bug where it was moving this one face every render. Then it started moving more and more till… well, you can see it.

HELP ME!?!

Go to frame 1. Go to the IPO window and delete all IPO’s. If it’s RVK’s select from the button with ‘Object’ in it.

Hmmm…

Not sure what your talking about.

I was using IPOs though. Which makes me think you nailed the problem on the head.

I’ll mess around in the IPO screen next time. Never really though to look there.

Thanks.

BTW, while you helping people could you posibly tell me why my spot lamp wont cast shadows?
I have buf. shadows selected.
I have shadows turned on in my render section.
I have a decent sized buffer.
But it just gleams right through anything in its way. :frowning:

On the shadow topic: From looking at the screenshot you posted, it seems like your Clip Start and Clip End values are not correct (since you’re using buffer shadow). Make sure Clip Start is right before your first object and Clip End right after your last object.

Martin

The IPO window has a graph-like icon. All the keydata should be black (dots on colored lines) Hit ‘A’ to select them all (white) and X to delete them all.

Once you adjust clipstart and clipend click ‘Shadows’ on in render buttons (F10) and in Shaders (F5) and it should work.

Mmmm, teeth.

It seemed to be working ok, but then it “collapsed” and I didn’t care so much about getting the shading right now that my shaped has just imploded.

I’ll probably post this tomarrow if I can’t get it, me and this guy on AIM together can’t figure it out. :\

Thanks agian.

PS - Is that IPO thing a bug I guess? Or am I just not doing it right?

Fligh, by doing that I have just deleted my animation?

:frowning:

Of course! But you saved a backup didn’t you? I can’t think of anything else that would do that to your mesh, so you would have had to delete it to do it right anyway. And if that collapse was what you were trying to do with IPo’s it would have been better to use RVK’s

Sorry if I blew your work but if you explain what it is you want to do (and maybe mail me the .blend) I’m willing to work it all out. It’s just cool to do it here so those few others who do search can learn too.

I wasn’t trying for a collapse effect (not sure if you thought that or not). I just wanted a door to slide down and close over the doorway.

I didn’t save that one the Screenies are from, I though it was probably a total loss, but it was easy to re-create. The 2nd one I made did the same thing so I did like you said and deleted the “speed” curve in the IPO window, then used undo to get it back to the way it was. Only problem then is that I lost my animation curve. It was a simple animation so it wasn’t a big deal, but would suck for larger projects.

I made this once I got it working as planned. Kind of a intro to a online game team called “Solitary Confinement.” Its not great, but it was a good thing to work on to teach myself some animaition with (2nd project I had attempted).

Cool. Glad you got it sussed.
