I am making a short animation in cycles, but for some reason, the plane I’m using for the floor isn’t lighting, at all. It’s just pitch black, no matter the strength of my spotlight. I was checking around, and I was only able to light it up using its own emission, but since I want a spotlight effect, it won’t do. Is there a common fix? I’m using blender 4.2. If needed, I shall upload my file.
There might be a few reasons for this. These are the ones currently on my mind:
First, make sure the material has at least 1 node connected to the “Material Output” node.
Also, ensure there is no duplicate plane in the same position.
Hi can you show a screenshot of the location of the spot light and the rest of the setup don’t crop it?
Could you upload the file? If you don’t want to share your project, you could delete the objects irrelevant to this problem before uploading.
Nah, it’s okay, I barely started on the animation and lighting and keys and stuff, thanks for any help!

The plane actually is duplicated, it’s just that the duplicates are part of the same object.
Go in edit mode, select everything with “a”, then do a “merge by distance” to eliminate the overlapping faces.
Thanks! It even said ‘removed 8 vetices’, Thank You!
