I am very pleased with your indulgent attitude. Thank you for twisting the title of my text. You did it as I intended from the very beginning. (I didn’t know that users here have such an opportunity)
If you come in with a shitty, self-indulgent attitude, don’t be surprised if you get clowned on.
Your title was untruthful, so I corrected it. Nowhere in your post did you review any aspect of blender.
You just seem pissed that the developers priorities aren’t your priorities. And you aren’t making a good case for why they should be.
Why are your ideas better than theirs? What authority do you have to tell them the work they are doing is wrong and they should be doing what you want them to do?
I’ve been a member of this community for over 20 years. I participate actively and I am generally quite helpful. When people have questions, I do my best to answer them and point them in the direction of growth.
The direction I would point you towards is the path of humility. You do not know everything. Your opinions aren’t precious diamonds. Chill out and work with the amazing tools you have available. Find workarounds for any issues you may have, and be patient. The developers aren’t stupid. They know what needs to be fixed. They do not need you, so don’t be surprised when they act accordingly.
These exact points have been raised over and over again. Just look at the other threads.
It doesn’t really change the facts: we’re lucky to have the devs that we have - people who want to add new features, and work on the damn Grease Pencil. This is good. Otherwise we wouldn’t even have that.
We either have to wait until some UV/texturing/performance- guru shows up and joins the dev team, or step up and contribute ourselves. “Raising awareness” is pointless, because we all having these issues, we all seen them being described again and again all over the community - the awareness is already there.
What else is there to talk about?
Speaking as a former mechanic - that’s not how that works.
In the few years I was active on the 3dsMax beta, I had at least 4 of my major requests added to the main program in pretty much exactly the fashion I had explained/described/demonstrated:
1 - mikkT normal baking
2 - PBR viewport updates
3 - Boolean Modifier
4 - Smart Extrude modeling toolset
When was that? I have only ever felt like I am screaming into the void with any communication I have had with Autodesk over the past 10 years.
That was maybe 6 years ago? It was the internal beta though, so direct interaction with the dev team/product manager.
I also had the opportunity to see how the internal process worked with the public ‘3dsMax ideas and suggestions’ voting system. The dev team did actually use that to direct their dev focus and priorities.
Were you on the Autodesk beta team?
I ask, only because when I’ve been on (commercial 3D app) alpha or beta - my suggestions were definitely taken into account… features or workflows adjusted, or a tool added or tweaked, etc. But, tester feedback in those areas was encouraged (moreso alpha, than beta).
But, in the Blender ecosystem - the process for feature design, collecting feedback, and revisioning is somewhat different, of course. I think it’s somewhat expected, when your testing group isn’t limited to 10-20 people - but instead, the entire world is a participant.
I also had a LOT of my requests added on the Substance Modeler beta, but again, this was internal beta. Imo, some sort of vetted artist beta system with any 3D program is ESSENTIAL for its development. Every single commercial 3D program has one.
Negative, just a sad autocad user, lol. I put my email in every one of those (many many) bug report boxes but i never hear anything back. The forums are littered with agonized reports of issues unaddressed for over a decade.
I’ve had plenty of luck with blender support myself.
I’ve had bug reports squashed within hours. I’ve been very satisfied with the responsiveness of the dev team here, but I don’t try to steer development priorities with it.
Nah mate, that’s not going to do it. You have to be able to beg in person. ![]()
On a beta you get to ‘plead your case’. Often times developers don’t know what it is exactly that you are proposing, or why it is needed in the program, so you can both work through it, prototype it, tune and tweak it, or even evolve or abandon it. The alpha/beta is the perfect place to do this and the reason that it even exists in the first place.
Well, the Blender studio is the closest thing to a beta team.
But for OP’s complaint, they’re roughly equivalent.
Random user requests don’t often get fawned over.
Let me note that all your arguments are easily applicable to you ![]()
Appealing to “authority” is not an argument, a reason or anything else. Einstein was wrong too. Like everyone else. We are all people. Unlike you, I understand this and am making a remark especially for people like you.
You did say, and i quote, “Let the hunger games begin.”
Well - welcome to the hunger games, where the odds are not forever in your favor.
I like the way you think! And in general I even agree. But let me say that there is no such thing as too much awareness ![]()
Blender gets its feedback primarily from Blender Studios, each project gives them real-time feedback on what needs to be worked on next from real-world projects. So they do get feedback, from professionals, not from random people on the internet. The fact that random people can talk directly to the developers and even modify the software is more feedback than most companies will allow.
That’s what happens in software development. Blender is a large project, some things take priority.
It’s not. Blender is successful because of the processes and organisational structure Ton put in place. If you can design a better way to do things, go ahead, and then propose them to the developers or create a fork and start your own company.
My review of your review is that it’s uninformed about how and why things work the way they do, and you should do some research before forming your opinions, then your opinions might have some weight.
More like, let the strawman argument games begin!
I should have checked OPs post history, Being an upbge user tells me all I need to know.
