I call this one ‘skateboarding scene’. I know what it really needs is a person on the skateboard. Once I manage to model a person (might only have to be from the waist down) I’ll make the person doing a flip trick. If anyone has any links which I might find useful for doing this it would be great if you could reply with them.
I know it is simple, but I think it is better than my first (torch on a table). I spent a bit longer on this, and I feel it looks more realistic. (although I wasn’t really aiming for maximun realism).
Please help me improve by giving comments, and suggestions
hehe that looks like me skating, me fallen off the thing
Looks nice except the rear wall it looks too 2d right now, maybe consider adding a nor(bump) map to it for imperfections, and maybe even change the angle to show some of the top %|
I’ll try the bump map thing. The angle is looking up so you shouldn’t be able to see the top of it. Once I can get the model of a human in, I’ll start thinking about adding little things, like a bird, or someone sat on the ledge/wall.
What do you think to the skateboard itself? And the sky? I’ll try make the sun a bit more realistic, and perhaps give the clouds more definition.
One thing that hit me is the shadow of the skate.
Let me explain:
The sun is at the back and the shadow seem to be projected by a light that is in the opposite way! and it’s during day so there shouldn’t be any other lights
For the sky, try putting for definition for the cloud. For the sun, I don’t have time right now. But tomorrow I’ll post a small tutorial here to have a nice sun that have lens flares
I’m not the best in halo effect but I’m enough good

Just add a lens flare post render in Photoshop. Much easier
Yes I noticed it looked a bit thick. I tried to make it less noticable by covering more of the sides with the texture on the underside of the deck, and by positioning the skateboard carefully. Perhaps I can position it better so it doesn’t look as thick.
Hopefully when I put a human on, (and also maybe make an animation out of it) it won’t be as noticably thick.
The feel that adding the concave was essential in making the board look more realistic.
Thanks for your comments. Much appreciated.
Again, if anyone knows of any tutorials or has any info about modelling a human, please post a link or share your knowledge. I’de like it to be flexiable, so that it can move in different ways. For example, ankle rotation, knees bendable etc… You get the picture
