My first go with blender. Sorry about blue background, planning to add more to the back. So far just using basic extrude, mirror, subdivide and scaling. Ve: 4547 Fa:5899… I like subdivide.
You can change the background colour quite easily using the world settings. Hit F5 to go to the Shading panel, then click on the World button (little blue orb next to the biohazard sign). In the panel labelled world there’ll be a little colour panel in the top left - click on this to change the colour.
You can also generate stars in the world settings by clicking the button labelled ‘stars’ under the Mist/Stars/Physics panel
The mirroed pieces are overlapping each other. Is the mirror modifier still activate? If so, then you should go to edit mode, and make sure that none of the vertices are beond the halfway point.
yes, i’m using the mirror modifier. i think you are pointing out the shadded area in the middle of the object. how exactly would i go about setting the halfway point and making sure nothing goes past it? also, is there a button that does the opposite of subdivide? like a button that will join or combine together multiple faces into one?
i think i’m done changing the shape of the shuttle for the most part. my next question is how do i apply multiple textures in different spots of the same object? when ever i add a texture to the object, it adds it to the whole thing, how do i get it to only apply to just the ‘engine’ ?
try this:
create the textures, then go into edit mode- face select and select all the faces that make up the engine, and then go to editing tab and select apply, makesure tho that u dont use the first material that u create, because the first one is aplied to the whole mesh and its easier to just leave it than have to select 80% of the mesh to apply a texture.
Hi all,
I’m using 2.44 and I’m having a major problem with tutorial instructions; mainly that when I’m directed to a panel and then a button, the button or slider isn’t there or (for example) clicking on a colored panel in the World Panel, doesn’t change the color of the 3d window’s background. I’ve started working my way through online tutorials and this problem is beginning to snowball. Any suggestions?
TIA
It’s quite cool!
Here is a video of my shuttle thus far. still trying to figure out the materials
@Eiffel D Oun:
It is very impolite to highjack other peoples threads. The question you are asking is best asked in the support section of this forum and by opening your own thread. Probably one of the moderators is willing to move your post to the correct section.
@drhavanger: To prevent vertices from going over half point you have to activate the do clipping button in the mirror modifier.
I’ve for the most part have completed adding color. Don’t know if I want to cut off the extension on the top or not.

Noticed that in the below pictures (1 & 2) blender did not render the materials in the circled areas. The materials assigned to these faces are used else where on the object and those are being rendered. I can also see visually that the faces are assigned the material from pic # 3. Anyone have a clue as to why they aren’t being rendered? I’ve downloaded Yafray and it too isn’t rendering them.

Either you have a normal issue and need to recalculate normals (CTRL-N for outside and CTRL-SHIFT-N for inside) To check if it is a normal problem go to the Editing panel (F9) and turn on Draw Normals Draw VNormals in the MesshTools 1 Panel. You might have to adjust the size of the normals (NSize Field) to see them better. They should all be pointing to the outside to make the face visible.
Another cause might be that you have more than one face holding the same space. This can be reduced by using Remove Doubles in the Editing Panle or by selecting it from the Specials Menu (W) when in Editing mode. The menu only works on selected vertices.
The shuttle looks really coll, its better than my stuff thumbs up
It would look better if you use a metal texture.And maybe u should design a shuttle with more balanced center of weight.
@musk: well normals seem to be… normal per attached pic1. Tried the remove double but it said removed 0 verts, so i don’t think it’s a doubles problem. i also deleted one of the faces, selected the it’s surrounding edges and tried to fill the face back in but it gave me a message stating the verts already form a face… but when i go to render the image it doesn’t render a face, pic2.
@iliketosayblah: thanks!
@Moremun: regarding metal text, that’s my next step after i figure out this material/face/render problem. regarding more balanced center weight, i don’t think i know what you mean, can you expound?
