My Train.

http://www.hot.ee/carnivorecreations/wip5.jpg - update below

To be honest, I’m quite a bit more impressed with the scenery around the train than the train itself. Which one did you spend more time on? As far as the train goes, you might want to look into dirtying up that white material, adding some wheels, and, yeah, doing something with those windows.

Keep pushing.

Now that I think about it, the train did take me about 15 mins compared to the two days I spent on the scenery… Yes, the texture will be looked into. But it’s iondrive. So it doesnt need any wheels. Thats just my way of cheating reality…

One other thing… if it’s not supposed to have wheels (and therefore floats), it might be a good idea to put in some lights that generate shadows so that’s easier to read.

Great render, looks cool, just add more lightning to it,a nd a little texture effect, and you’ve made a another cool render. Just some ideas. Keep Blending. :stuck_out_tongue:

For adding windows you could just extrude the faces on the mesh where the windows are… I especially like the little decals…very cool. But if you ask me your train needs to have a more obvious way of sitting on the tracks. Currently it looks like it would roll right off. Maybe you should make the bottom flat?

Another small update

Thanks, GFX Idiot, for encouraging me to go and wreak havoc within my mesh. It worked. We’ve got windows!

Anyway, please, suggestions to make this image better. What to add, what to remove or tweak, etc. Also, this is my first ever time using envmaps, so how can I improve the reflection? Please. Oh and I previously forgot to mention, this pic was originally inspired by X-warrior and his superb high-speed trains. I just wanted to make one too.

To get your envmaps working make them additive and in the texture setting for the map put the name of the mesh object the envmap is applied to in the “Ob” field. Then make sure you’ve got the “envmaps” button pressed down on the Display buttons before rendering. Good luck!

Anyone? Please. Does everyone except Desoto think it’s cr*p or doesn’t anyone care? Please. I’m struggling here. I won’t improve this pic anymore, but I want my next project (yes, it’s a mech) to be a lot better. Please. Even a “that texture is crappy” will help me. Please :expressionless:

maybe im not sure…

but in my point of view, the black window with that lights need to reflect a lot (in a real situation, in my brain %| ) the background kicks ass. how do you made the plants? fiber script??

I still think the white is a bit overly stark. Dirt, grime, or something to break it up would be a good thing.

One neat way to break up stark materials is by making subtle light maps, and loading textures onto spots.

like so: with object selected, press button ‘make’ in edit buttons, delete lights, and press Vcol light in materials.

I like the design. A couple of things though. You are going to need doors to get in and out of and the main window is a little on the big side. Unless you have an engineerless train (run by remote) the big window could offer more distraction then information for the engineer to handle. It’s an interesting looking train. One other thing most of the hishspeed stuff runs on it’s on right of way. In this case your train is powered by nuclear energy and doesn’t have an overhead Catennary systesm. Still you need to keep people and animals from the track for safety reasons. Might I suggest you elevate the track to a height of say 20/30 feet and put some pylons under it to give it some futuristic look to it. This could still give you the scene you have without the danger…
