N. Korea positions rocket on launch pad

Have you seen this? It actually sounds quite scary.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7964364.stm

Yes, it’s called British propaganda, and it worked because it got you worried. You got to remember the British, to their credit, are masters of propaganda; how else can you explain a little nation like Britain get themselves a huge empire?

Don’t worry, I’m afraid of everyone north of me!

ManDingo: Its not british, I posted it just by accident from BBC but I saw it on CNN first. Actually the biggest issue with this has US and Japan.

The country is broke. They can’t even feed the army. They’re not going to attack anyone and win, and everyone knows that. They are desperate for money. The US gives them money to keep them quiet, and they want more. This is like a blackmail - give us more aid or we fire the rocket.

Honestly, if north korea fired a missile it could be shot down, easily. So why worry about something that hasnt happened yet. The media and government just like to justify situations like this for an excuse to expand arms and inpose trading laws etc on other poorer countries.

Well, you see, because the government left the entrepreneurs/merchants alone while they concentrated on things like hunting down protestants/catholics unlike, say, Spain who had a serious bureaucracy that followed the colonists where ever they went. Back in the early days that is, once they got into things like British bottoms ‘taxes’ and stuff like that things changes a bit.

The Spanish, on the other hand, had many, many people go overseas to escape the Inquisition (nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!!!) which, through the afore mentioned bureaucracy, followed them to the colonial holdings. As Spain was under Moorish control for something like 900 years there were a whole lot of non-christian people who had some serious incentive to get out before they were ‘questioned’ about how devoted they were to the Catholic version of the God of Abraham as opposed to the Islamic version of the God of Abraham.

So…

Little government intervention == prosperity while big government intervention != prosperity.

“but I saw it on CNN first”

ROFL!!

Uncle Entity: How it has to do with the topic?

zanos: ?

CNN is just a big propaganda machine used by the government to brainwash those who don’t know any better.

nobody should be scared of north korea

Enjay: But they have monkey ninjas and bear cavarly. Be afraid, be very afraid hides in bush >__>

Haha I’m north of you. Now hand over your credit card details.

NJROTC - you are so correct!

Dont worry, I am not affected by it at all, since I am Polish and I live in Spain. I just sometimes check BBC or CNN.

I mention CNN just to show that what ManDingo said before about UK had nothing to do.

While CNN is obviously mired in political agenda, I would hardly say it amounts to an efficient, single-ideology brainwashing machine. Has anyone been able to follow this story from a more independent source?

if north korea fired a missile it could be shot down, easily
I was under the impression that counter missile systems for ICBM’s was still experimental?

PapaSmurf is right Nth Korea is already broke, it can’t fight, it’s people are already on the bread line. Like PapaSmurf said, it’s a bluff to get more aid.

I agree with: Daniel8488, Uncle Entity, Zanos, DashRendaer, Enjay, and Kbot. Nth Korea is no real threat. You got to remember in World War Two, America fought a war on two fronts at the same time and won!

The industrial capacity of the USA cannot be beat; that’s why the industrial weapon’s complex is always looking for new wars to fight to justify their existance, if you die in the process, well that’s your problem.

Chimericidol you got to ask yourself, who actually owns CNN or the BBC? It’s obvious you don’t, therefore you don’t have freedom of speech. Only the owners of these stations have true freedom of speech, and remember you don’t.

AllTaken, you funny guy, you have a great sense of humor. You already live at the bottom of the world. There ain’t nobody further south than you, well maybe for a couple of Chileans on The land of fire/Tierra del Fuego, but that’s about it. This all reminds me of that Split Endz song:

Aotearoa, rugged individual glisten like a pearl
At the bottom of the world
The tyrany of distance didn’t stop the cavalier
So why should it stop me? I’ll conquer and stay free

Ah come on all you lads, let’s forget and forgive
There’s a world to explore
Tales to tell back on shore
I just spent six months in a leaky boat
Six months in a leaky boat

I was under the impression that counter missile systems for ICBM’s was still experimental?

absoultely wrong. there is an entire network set up to shoot them down. all ranging from counter missles to lazers.
i live on ft. bliss, the air defence base of the United States, and i can assure you that i have seen this land based air and missle defence network with my own eyes, and its good.
North Korea couldnt make anything to penetrate just the multiple stage land network, much less the combined Navy, Airforce, and Army defensive systems. hitting the US with a nuke may not have been too difficult back in 1955, but now its a very hard task to pull off.

this one was taken at the US Kirkland airforce base. this system can shoot down anything from missles to satelites

this is the US Avenger anti air sytem with a stinger rocketpod and offensive laser system all for shooting down missles and aircraft

CNN is just a big propaganda machine used by the government to brainwash those who don’t know any better.

You guys have to understand that every type of news is propaganda. If princeton.edu defines it as “information that is spread for the purpose of promoting some cause” than every news site (even the indie ones) are giving the information for a reason which means they are giving out propaganda–even if that propaganda is to prop themselves up in their own financial trouble. You can’t tell someone anything without a reason or cause. Which means that your conspiracy theories could technically be called propaganda. In fact, most of them are. With that said, most of these news sites and channels have their own political beliefs and agendas that come out when they interpret the news. It can’t be helped or stopped, sadly. :frowning:

The question here shouldn’t be wether or not this is propaganda, but wether or not CNN and BBC are trying to play up people’s fears so that people will watch or read their stories. (which is a form of propaganda). If Enjay is correct, than it sounds like they are either: not quite as informed as one might think, or they are trying to play up peoples fears.

Another question might be: Does the UK have or even need a missle defense system as efficient as the US?

Peace,
-nick

These technologies are impressive, but have seen almost no use against actual ICBM’s, have limited range(the PAC-3 patriot missile has a range of just 15km according to wikipedia), and are not deployed in force. There certainly aren’t patriot systems lining the west coast!

And the Laser systems are all still undeployed. The ABL has never been used while in flight as far as i’ve seen.

In a few years, we will be safe, but for now, we just have to hope we get a good headsup on the missile…
