Nation of the dead is a project i started back in December. It’s currently a 4man team. None of us are that experienced.
This game is going to be very low poly. I was thinking something along the lines of 500-650tris per person.
The Storyline
Russia has just bombed the U.S.A. The gasses from inside the bomb have started to have weird reactions with humans. The gasses killed almost everything and brought them back to life(yes even the dead came back to life). Jaime(Jamie) was knocked out by the blast and wakes up in the hospital. Something sharp is sticking out of his side so goes and looks for something to take the pain away so he can take it out. He finds something and goes to a closed room and takes the metal piece out. He passes out due to lack of blood. He gets awakened by a sharp feeling in his side. A girl named Aleks(Alex) is stitching his side. So they go on and pretty much fight through hundreds and hundreds of zombies to find there way to safty…
The story line is kind of like the game Left 4 Dead and The Last Stand(look it up)
MEMBERS!
Reese-Team leader, weapon and some what organic modeler
John- Texture artist, modeler
Mike(not really working with us anymore)- Modeler
Kyle- Python/Logic
Thomas- Texture artist
We are still looking for animators and texture artists. We are also looking for someone that can model low low poly humanoids.
If you would like to help with modeling, animations or textures feel free to PM me.
We don’t have much done. We have all the weapons made(I made them) and a few other props(made by John) and some of the first floor of the hospital. Also we have AI(not the best right now but it does the job) and a shooting script, health system, and reload system.
Screenshots!
MP5
Pistol
Shotgun
Rocket Launcher
Explosion
Gun pick up
Rocket Launcher shots(not the rocket launcher we are using in the game)
Reloading
So yeah any comments or anything feel free to post them…
Also this is the first project I have ever started.
Good script so far, but don’t you think that the Russia-USA thing is a pretty old one. And how Jaime and Aleks are not infected? But its still intresting story.
And one more thing, If you have two main characters, what will be the gameplay like?
I agree with Haidme that the Russia vs. US IS old… all the WWII games, castle wolfenstien…
why not base it off of something that is happening now, like the fact that scientists are causing HIV to reproduce incredibly fast, so that it evolves itself to death. Take that, and say that the HIV got out of control, and evolved into a zombie-making plague!
hey, im also working on a zombie game=)
wanna have a cometition about who makes the most awsome one?
link: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=143246
anyway, ill gladly help you with a great weapon changeable bullethole script and some other stuff, i love zombies!
and, yeah, i can really se that this is your first project… and you should know that the most newbies never finishes their first first project.
still, if you need help, ill be here for ya.^^
Yeah well the Russia thing… I couldn’t think of a realistic… Aleks is like the girl from HL2…You can’t play as her she is just extra help…Well you might be able to if we make it a multiplayer game(probaby not gunna happen).
Also for the people not getting infected… Jaime had heard that Russia was going to bomb the USA on December 21, 2012(end of the world supposibly) so he took cover in a bomb shelter he had made in his basement. The bomb blast blows some bricks of the wall at Jaime. He gets knocked out and impaled with something sharp(like a knife or something). His parents were with him. The gasses got to them but not Jaime. Before his parents turned to zombies they got him to the hospital and just left him there… As for Aleks she was not infected because the gasses had no affected on her because something in her blood…
Yeah I know the reasoning why they aren’t infected is pretty stupid but I haven’t put any thought into it.
scientists are causing HIV to reproduce incredibly fast, so that it evolves itself to death. Take that, and say that the HIV got out of control, and evolved into a zombie-making plague!
I like that Idea…But HIV causing to make zombies…HMMM
Okay. I got some humanoid bodies both male and female. I think they are going to be zombies. Also all credit to Hellrazor
I have two special zombies
Stalker- Fast and long jumping zombie with razor sharp claws
Gorger- Fat puss filled zombie that spits puss and breath vomit.
Stalker is the first one on the left
Male zombie is the second one in 1st row
Female is the second to last one
Gorger is the fat looking zombie on the end
The topology on the zombies are… eeeh… The way you should model is start in the middle with mirror and make a “ring” that fits around the person (maybe like 6, or 7 vertices) and then start extruding the ring up the body past the chest to make the abdomen. This will give you much more control over the mesh.
Yeah I have tried to make my own bodies multiple times…I just can not model humanoids. Every time i try to it looks really bad to me.
Kyle has set up a lil shooting demo(no zombies no nothing…Just lil targets)
Control
W-forward
S-backward
A-left
D-right
F-pick up weapon
LMB-Shoot
RMB-grenade
There is a few glitches…When you shoot after you run out of clips it keeps going and you have no reload and infinitiemillion ammo. Thats the olny one i have found.
Rozzy:
How do you make those dudes? I always sucked at organic modeling.
Do you use reference images? Starting object?
Lilgrudgeboy: You using GLSL?
If you want, I can model you a sniper rifle. Barrett would be cool :ba:
I don’t use reference images. I will make a video sometime, I acually recorded me making that one, but it froze after a while. I will just have to record it in small sections, and put them together in a movie making software. I always start modelling at the feet with a subdivided plane.
@Reese: I made a head for it like two seconds after I uploaded that. If you do decide to use it, I’ll upload the updated one with the head. I realize its a little high-poly for your use, but you can compensate for using a smaller 256*256 texture.
