Yeah, I use 2.5 as well. If the console isn’t visible, there’s an option to show it in the Help menu. If the option isn’t present, get the latest build of Blender from the homepage.

Hm. Well, I don’t know about OSX, but there’s such an option in 2.57B in Windows XP… I take it you have checked, and there is no such option? If this is the case, go into the OSX package, and navigate to the ‘true’ Blender executable - running this used to make the console open up with Blender.
