Need help to tweak SSS

:smiley: eh… I tried the “makehuman” way for SSS…

:confused: I admit I still wonder how they found such a technique and hope there will be a fake SSS material soon in Blender :smiley:

But for now, it’s experimentation time… So I’ve seen people obtain pretty good results and fine tune the specularity and all…

But eh… I have some trouble sorting that kind of things out… Don’t know if it’s because the toon shader interfer or what…

I tried to add a color ramp to simulate blood under the skin (less waxy appearance) but still…

Any advices?

I would like to try the nodes, but I don’t know where to find a tutorial (found some but not very helpful)

I don’t know about your skin problem, but holy crap, the lips look fantastic.

It kind of looks like its made out of a shiny plastic.

I’d say there’s too much specularity and reflection (mirror).

Did you try the buffer spot SSS method posted at make human a while ago?

I took photos of lips with gloss… It’s the color map…
Still have to do a specular map and normal maps for the lips…

About the shiny plastic feeling, that’s the exact problem I have…

I found where the problem was :smiley: * di doo di da ! *

The color ramp I use to give a more sanguine aspect to the skin… If the ramp is too transparent, it let the color underneath appear faking specularity…

you should change the eyes…they dont look realistic…love the lips though!

:smiley: Well… for reasons I can’t completely fathom, the “Render Preview” doesn’t give the same results in perspective and orthographic…

:smiley: puzzled me a couple of time (when I was looking for the eyeball spec for example)…
But now I am doing preview only in perspective…

Also I found that using fresnel worked as well with the shadow map SSS…
