Need help with control room background (layout, POV, lighting)

Hey, I’m currently working on a game and trying to create a NASA control room style background using Blender, but I’m a bit stuck.

At the moment, I have a basic layout set up, with tiered desks and a camera for the player’s point of view, but I’m having a bit of trouble with

  • the camera view (can’t see enough detail without obstructing things),
  • the layout (the rows aren’t looking right from the player’s view) and,
  • the lighting/materials (haven’t even started on that, as the scene doesn’t feel right yet).

The style I’m going for is a clean control room style, with cool blues and dark teal colors, soft lighting, and a semi-realistic style, but not too detailed, more like something that looks good and is suitable for a game background.

I’ve attached a screenshot of what I currently have.

If you could provide any feedback or suggestions, or even adjust the layout and camera a bit, it would be great, thanks! I can also share the .blend file if needed.

Welcome :tada:

Hmm… i would say: “You nailed it.”

Yours seems to have some “continued” desk at the front… but this may suit your intenstion better… and the camera mightbe a bit high or… i do not know if this room has a planar bottom or some curve/slope getting a higher ground level when being more far away from the bigscreen.

It depends on what feeling you are going for but this is good. A narrow room feels clostraphobic and works great if you want the viewer to feel tense whilst a wider room can make the viewer feel more relaxed.

The height of the camera also has an affect for example higher up you feel more at ease because you can see everything while being lower again feels more tense because you can’t see what’s behind something.

It really depends on the type of game you are making and what you want the player to feel in that moment or environment but yes the space and the camera can have a huge affect.

You can play with the camera height and field of view as an easy place to start. Take screenshots with each adjustment and compare them side by side. If this doesn’t work you can try widening your scene or add some more verticality to it like a single step to a lower platform.

Thank you very much for your input, I am going for a relaxed calm game so I will make sure to put your tips to good use, I did not know this could have an effect so I am very grateful for your tip

You’re welcome
