Need help with fluids

1st off… I am completly new to Blender… I guess it’s possible I jumped ahead too fast, but the tutorials seemed pretty simple, so I figured what the heck…
When I make my main cube a Fluid Domain, it automatically changes it shape to something weird… I have tried it a few different times and have had it change to a few different shapes. When I try to bake, the simulation runs, but at the end, there are no actual fluids…
Scene has: 1 large cube as domain, 1 cube on floor, 1 floating cone, 1 sphere I am using as the emitter and a plane I am using as a light source. Trying to get the emitter to pour over the cone and then hit the cube and floor. Tried it using cycles and Luxrender.
i am using blender version
2.65.0 r53189
My system is pretty good. Windows 7 Pro 64, intel i7, 24GB RAM, GeForce 680 GTX video, so I don’t think it’s a hardware requirement issue.

Here is the before file:

Here is the after file:

Can someone let me know what i am doing worng? probably a simple mistake…

Thanks

Used your second file, pressed bake and it creates the fluid.
Did you scrub through the timeline to see the fluid ?

i knew it was something simple… Thanks!
OK, another question on the same file… Opening the test3b file and scrubbing, it looks like the domain is the source of the water instead of the sphere I designated as the inflow… Is this how it’s supposed to work?
Also is the domain supposed to change shape?

Yes, the fluid object just indicates the fluid source. The material you want to use for your fluid yo add to the domain object.

Also is the domain supposed to change shape?
Yes
