Need help with headlight glow

I am having a hard time with set of basic headlights(see image 1, A and B posts of buggy). I have a spotlight behind a translucent material. I would like the light to shine through the glass and illuminate objects beyond. I would also like the glass to light up with refracted light (see image 2 for example).

I am fairly new to blender and i don’t fully understand the relationship between lights and materials so please forgive this if it is a dumb question.

What am i doing wrong?
