need help with the UV unwraping

hey, i need help with unwraping the stock of my k31… i’m really getting crazy. i just wanna have some own nice camouflage on the stock, but if i render it, its always so stretched and deformed. does somebody have a idea how to unwrap this complex mesh right??

hope somebody can help me. thanks

let’s just concentrate on the stock. the proper way to unwrap such a form is to make seams and load using the standard ‘unwrap’ option. if you do this correctly, there should not be a stretching problem.

thanks Modron, but i did make seams along the stock and at the top of the stock… still the same result. i wasted already more as 10 hours to fix it. any other ideas, or maybe you can tell me how to place the seams right?

Could you attach or post a link to your blend file. What unwrap option were you using ?

i just used the normal unwrap, part by part.
here is the blender file: http://www.pasteall.org/blend/19278

thanks

This is the best video tutorial I’ve come across for learning the ins and outs of UV unwrapping. It’s clear, straightforward and covers just about everything you can think of on the topic.

Try starting with Smart UV Project, and then tweak the seams from there. (I’ve never found much use for Smart UV Project before, but it does a surprisingly good job on your model.)

Best wishes,
Matthew

i tried to do it with a smart UV projekt, but i doesn’t get a great result, because the UV layout i get this way is quiet uncomfortable to edit in GIMP… there are always some differences between the parts… could you may upload my file after you did it your way, and post the link? Thanks
