Need some help with Blender Flip Fuids Ocean simulation

Hello, wondering if anyone can help me with a scene I’m trying to create with a Submarine Breaching the ocean surface.
I have a large plane with an ocean modifier to create waves. I have a Flip fluid Tank for the submarine to splash around as it surfaces.

I’m trying to get the flip fluid surface to have the same waves as the plane. I’ve seen a few tutorials on this, but I can’t seem to get it right or not sure what I’m doing wrong.

I selected the plane pressed shift, then selected the flip fluids, and pressed control L to link the ocean modifier to the flip fluids. The only thing I change is in the ocean modifier for the flip surface, I change from Generate to displace. So far I have not been able to get the flip fluids to have the same waves as the ocean plane even though they are linked. Can anybody help me with this?
