Need to create a 'dust shockwave' when a gun fires?

Hi everyone,

This is my first post, so apologies if I’ve put this in the wrong section, feel free to move it.

I’m creating an animation for school which demonstrates a sniper rifle being shot in slow motion, but I’m having difficulty finding any tutorials for a dust/air shockwave which comes out the barrel as the bullet is fired.

To demonstrate what I’m after, watch this slo-mo clip: http://youtu.be/5dvWGY2bAd0?t=1m19s
As you can see there’s a puff of air/dust which kicks back the moment the bullet leaves the barrel.

If anyone can let me know how to go about doing this, or provide a link to a tutorial, that would be great. I’m no expert with Blender either, so simplicity would be appreciated

Thanks

Andrew Price has an explosion tutorial that has a shock effect.

(Though I am surprised that they let you create a sniper rifle animation at a school…)

Thanks for the link.

I probably should have used the word ‘college’ instead of school. My class mostly consists of students over the age of 18 so they’re not bothered about us implementing guns into our animations. Well, my teacher hasn’t told me off yet
