I did a network render with a recent build of 2.5.
All of the frames rendered, but when the images were collected some frames were blank.
What I noticed is that the slaves render the frames and save them as EXR, but when they are collected, they get converted to the chosen file type, PNG in my case.
So some of the PNGs are empty, but the EXRs have the right file size. The only problem is that I can’t seem to open the EXRs in anything. I have Adobe CS4, and have worked with EXRs before.
open in Blender? There has been talk about how the EXR format is not well defined or adheared to by other aps. I have had renders spit out the odd black frame too, but from the VSE.
This is the solution I cam onto. I created a composite in Blender that loaded each frame and saved it out as a PNG. The downside is that the background sky was lost as the PNG used its alpha channel, so I rendered the sky out and put it in as a background layer in After Effects. Everything s fine now.
