If you would like to take a look I’ve attached the svg file so you can make your own logo ideas come true. Or maybe share it with the blender foundation Credit the post or my forum name “Sakutami”. thanks.
Sorry. I’m having a lot of fun with this logo. I believe it’s quite flexible and can fit different themes.
Personally it’s my favorite. Maybe because it’s my own creation. But it makes more sense to me than the official logo.
Even though it’s just for fun please let me know your thoughts.
Key words for the design where: Community, Web, Hand-Eye.
So “just” rotating and mirroring this.. might be “just” not enought to justify a re-design ?? ..and at least i would almost break my wrist to make this sign with my hand…
And for a new name.. well.. it’s somekind of establised now..
But if one does not know/research about the history and hand thing and really suggest bonkers.. then all this might have not any chances to be considered by the blender foundation at all i guess (?).
Like with all conversations about a new blender logo, questions are what are the motivation behind the change / what problem are you trying to solve ? Beside you prefering your version over the original one.
Then it’s about how to solve that problem while preserving the orginal logo identity ? What you did is cool but to me it’s too many changes to still be the blender logo anymore…
Thanks for giving it thought. You point out some flaws of the redesign proposal. I personally think that my version is not realistically going to be the new blender logo. So, it’s just a fanart. But let me attempt to breakdown some decisions I made to get to the idea.
The official blender logo is a relic, and hard to replace as it’s been established and accepted by the community, and that’s okay with me. For that reason any idea of change or innovation comes with a lot of rejection. Also, the logo is a trademark of the blender foundation and it’s not as we have a lot of input in what they do with it at this point.
As you can see the more significant changes are not in the concepts of Community, Web or the hand-eye proposal discussed by the blender foundation, that’s still there. Instead it places all of that in the shape of a “B” so it is immediately understood as “blender” when you see it. Not just the general concepts behind it or the foundation but the actual software. That’s just my personal opinion though.
However, If you look closely there are a few extra things I made to the logo besides “just” rotating and mirroring to fit the concept of the b shape, and if we are talking about the entire logo, the font is different too.
Completely agreed. Exploring riffs on a logo can be fun, but there’s extremely close to absolutely no chance that this thread or similar would result in blender adopting the logo.
I agree that the logo will not change soon, but just to give a personal opinion.
I prefer the official one, the main thing being I do not like the off-centered orange circle. For me it breaks the feeling and looks like the eye is looking to one side.
I find the colours of yours too similar (red-orange) and too red. The blue circle in the original takes the “heat” off and is more pleasant to me and I much prefer just orange.
Also the change of orientation of the fingers makes it look like a chicken with its mouth open.
All in all, sorry, but it is not my taste.
As for changing the name normally a company will do that because there is a problem (or a take over) and they want to distance themselves from the past. Neither apply to Blender.
Well what they did is interesting ! And why not it’s fun to explore !
What I’m missing a bit is some design thinking, is this an attempt at modernizing the logo, ie make it look like the old one but slightly more modern…
Or it’s a rebranding, ie make a clear break from the past to indicate a new direction, what that direction would be then ?
Or it turns out, the logo doesn’t completely convey blender’s spirit or it’s user base, so let’s try to address that…
Changing just based on taste is ok, but it becomes more interesting when there is a purpose behind to drive creative choice…
