new install for newbie

Hi there

Newbie here. I just downloaded and installed 2.4a. Am running xp. Just prior to finishing the install, there was a brief message that says Blender needs some Python SW to run. I did not see the whole message as it disappeared quickly. But, Blender is running now.

May I know please if I need to download and install any Python sw. If I do, what should I have?

Thanks for any assist.

Cheers

Python is the scripting language that Blender uses to execute scripts in the Game Engine modelling and animation tasks. You don’t need Python to run Blender but if you don’t have it, you won’t be able to use any scripts. To download it, go to:

and grab version 3.0.1

I hope this answers you question.

Hi Robo3Dguy from Canada

Thanks for that. I (from Sydney) will download it although I am not sure if I need scripting right now. What I want to do is new simple (popski thinks so). If you will, let me describe it for you (your name suggests to me that you know a lot about what I need to do).

Below is a copy of what I want to do and the reply from Popski

thank you all for your help. I understand where popski is coming from and I thank you for that. I tend to agree with yellow although I am aware that I may not be using the most effective tool available.

Hi yellow, the camera was in a tri-pod and steady. the truck motion was smooth from start to finish, quite a simple footage really. I am hoping that the line should be smooth as well.

Thanks mantiwo, I will look at the links.

Cheers all

Heh, then it’s easy!

Load your movie as a background; setup the perspective in 3D that will fit one in the movie; add some dummy object (could be a simple box) which will follow truck trajectory; add a 3D bezier curve with a hooks and parent one hook to that dummy; add bevel object to that curve; hide object by moving it to an inactive layer.

If you did everything right will one end of the curve follow the truck…
That’s one option. This one is more ‘simple’ to setup, but require more manual work to animate the curve hooks. You can also use a mesh with a cloth modifier instead of bezier curve, but to tweak cloth settings that will behave as a rope, on example, is more tricky… Good luck!

Thanks Robo3Dguy

I (from Sydney, Aus via Wellington, NZ) did a quick reply but somehow I cannot see it here, so I am doing a proper reply. Thanks for the assist. I will download although I do not yet know if I need scripting considering that what I need to do seems simple (according to Popski). Based on your handle, i assume you know a lot about what I need to do, and I hope you can guide me through it (if its not too much hassle for you).

Is there enough info here to determine if I would be needing scripting of not? I just want to create a line that follows the movement of the truck (captured via camcorder, steady and simple) from start to finish.

Cheers

Actually you need a version 2.5 (2.5.4 being the latest) since Blender was compiled with it and is, AFAIK, most probably not compatible with anything above (2.6, 3.0).

Thanks ManOfSteel

No harm done (I think), I’ll just download 2.5.4 and install. Sicne I have already installed 3, is there anything that I have to look out for when installing 2.5?

Cheers

uhtygov: You are running Blender under Windows right? If you are, then look at the shell that runs with Blender. It will tell you if you have the correct version of Python installed.

hey i have a question. I copied and pasted Luxblend script in to Blenders script. And when i open Blenders script window to direct it to the software, i get python script error message. What am i doing wrong now, and even when i try to open Luxbelend render export from the top menu, it still says Python Script Error. Pleas help!!!

ok, thanx, sorry i have no idea how to use forums, i just post questions and that’s it. Thanx
