New Monster

Hi. This is a new monster ( dinosaur like) I’m making , sculpt is almost done, need some details on scales on his head and I’m going for texturing and then rigging.




Great. A bit of t-rex and a bit of comodo dragon. I remember seeing a dinosaur in a book, related to t-rex but older, very similar. Impresive ammount of details. How many polygons you have on him?

Thank you, that exactly I had in mind, trex and comodo dragon! I don’t know about that dinosaur that you said though.
Polycount is around 26 million polys.

Ah damn, can’t find that dinosaur, but it basically looked like t-rex on all four legs, on the illustration at least. I really dig the skin details. Is it dyntopo or multires?

Excellent work so far… this looks like it could have actually existed. Love the detailed skin.

You can’t find it because never existed, it’s just a fictional creature based on trex as you noticed. This is a multires scult, I used dynotopo on the first base model to make the basic forms , then retopologize it and then multires sculpting.

I meant the dinosaur that I saw somewhere. It was kind of similar. I’m looking forward to seeing it finished.

Very, very nice. No critique that I can give. the detail and design are fantastic. I really think you should take this to the next level and paint it and render it posed in an environment. Could easily be top row worthy.

Thanks guys! Yes Indy_logic this is the plan, texture it, making an environment animate and render. Render an animation will take a while though because some tests I’m doing right now with a basic SSS shader and a temporary texture are about 15-20 minutes per frame.

Ok here’s an update. Texturing not finished yet and starting to work on the SSS material.




Paint job is looking super cool! Yeah, I could take some time to render. :wink: But it’ll be worth it. I think you should just concentrate on a still image first though.
