New to blender need some help.

Hi all.

I am currently just learning how to model in blender. Have done lots with solidworks but blender is all new.

I am currently having some trouble. Just following some basic tutorials from around the place to get used to the layout and it is asking me to add a tool.

I have hit the Tkey to open up the side window but the button is not there. Am i doing something wrong? Do i have to activate it?

No. The tutorial must be for an early alpha or beta of blender 2.5. The Add Tool option has been removed from recent versions and no longer relevant.
Always try and use the most up to date tutorials since for blender 2.5 there have been many changes in its development, only just becoming more stable with recent betas.

I figured that was the case. Thanks for that.

One other thing. I was messing around and i can not figure out have to select an edge.

Like i have a curved edge and i want to select all verticies along the edge.

The main 3D window has menu bar at the bottom. There is a scroll button there next to the menu; set it to Edit mode. You can use Hot key [Tab] but you still need to see Edit mode show up in that little window. Go down the icons to the right from there down next to Global. There you find icon for Vertex, Edge, and Face select mode. Choose Edge select mode. Hit hot key [A] few times. You will see entire objects edge selected and deselected. Deselect all edge that way. Than mouse select the edge you want. Now change to Vertex select mode to see all vertex on the edge selected.
