Hey guys, I’m new to blender artists but have been using Blender for a few years and I’m thinking about making a movie and posting it here. If all goes according to plan it will be pretty violent and gory and I’m wondering if that’s accepted here.

Well, let’s see…do we want to create a world full of violence and gore, or a happy world full of love and possibilities…hmmmm…I’m a smurf with a really small brain…hmmm…zzzzzzzzzz.
That was so incredibly helpful you have no idea… (that was sarcasm (Damn! Smurf’s are slow)) But seriously I have no vendetta against smurfs and I need to know if posting images of people getting their heads blown off will get me in trouble.

either upload it somewhere and give a link or click manage attachments in the post screen, to upload from your computer
While there are examples of “blood and guts” here (freaky zombie pictures not withstanding!) I think it’s also a good idea to note that a lot of blender users and members here would not fall into the 15+ category that high-level animated violence usually receives from the more moderated world of television and movies.
Just make sure you note in the thread header when you post it that it’s not suitable for a certain age group - that way you can be sure they’ll all see it!
PS: If it involves violence against smurfs I’m there - Just don’t tell my kids!

It’s sad how the American T.V. / Movie industry thinks violence and horror is perfectly ok, and sadder still I suppose that there is a wide audience for it.
It’s rare when something funny or smart is produced. If that is due to market research indicating the audience is smaller for that material (which I don’t doubt), that is also very sad.
I admit I’ve played “Quake” and Half-Life … a couple of times, but I honestly get bored very soon. I have more fun with those games just wandering around the tunnels and rooms … and actually seeing how the games’ were created.
I guess I’m also a wimp when it comes to war / horror / other violent movies. I get no enjoyment from them, and it’s the rare movie that uses violence as part of the greater message for the film. Explicit violence is usually not necessary anyway, as implied actions are usually effective.

It’s up to you of course what you want to spend your time on, but even a 2-3 minute movie will take you hundreds of hours, why not spend your energy on a topic that’s funny / smart / educational … or has a meaningful message ?
It’s interesting that you posted this topic today, (and that I happened to read it), I just watched an interview on T.V. with a guy named Ishmael Beah who has written a book on how he was made a soldier for the government army when he was only 13 years old.

P.S. Mike, I think your right about too much violence in today’s media, but blood and guts are hard to get done in blender realisticaly without a lot of effort. (Unless there’s some button combination that does it automatically. I don’t doubt it.) I find it to be an interesting challenge and I’m trying to put as much story into the movie as possible. The movie is also for a game I’m trying to make on blender and, being a shooter style game, is inherently violent. Maybe you’ll end up liking the movie in the end, who knows.

I figure its your time and energy and you can do what you want, but so many people have done hard-core violence and extreme shiznit and all that totally bitchin’ stuff, that it isn’t really that original any-more. So it’ll just be an unpleasant re-hash, unless it has something REALLY GOOD about it.
War is all fun until you actually point an M-16 at someone with intent to kill. Until you see a friend…well, let’s just say, Grenade, your life energy would be better spent constructing something positive. Like a car. You know, we Smurfs don’t have cars, and could use a really good eco-friendly design. Or a woman that isn’t purple without any curvy features whatsoever. Or chocolate designs for Mother’s Day.
I will take personal exception if you post a photo-realistic picture of someone with their leg blown off…by a grenade. Or missing a eye and most of the left side of their face from a fragmentary anti-personnel device tripped by an unseen wire. Or a bamboo sliver sticking out of their gut when sprung from a tied sapling. Or an arm dangling by a sinew after a mortar attack. Or my fellow midshipman, Sandra, Class of '81, floating face down in the water after having her skull crushed by a jibing boom. Those pictures we can do without. Honestly. If you model, texture, and post those pictures, a hoard of angry Smurfs will descend on your computer and fry it.

I’m not entirely sure your question was answered… if its extremely violent you should probably put a “WARNING this is EXTREMELY violent” in the title… as far as I know, pornographic images are the only things not allowed… but I could be wrong. (nudity != porn… incase anyone was curious =P)
Well, the piece “Tube” in the forum gallery is a very gory, rather sickening picture that rather made my stomach want to do somersaults, but there is definitely an artistic quality to it. Now that’s not to say that the portrayal of senseless violence is prohibited (yet), but it’s certainly not going to win you a spot in the top banner.
Remember your audience for this sort of thing. You’re pitching an idea to a forum of self-styled artsie people who generally don’t appreciate things that are done without a point. Still, the choice is always up to the individual.
And on the rabbit trail of violent video games, Half-Life 2 was an incredibly well executed game with absolutely stunning acting, but because of the excessive gore, some of us can’t really enjoy it.

Would it be wrong for me to admit that i’ve looked into the feasibility of fluid sim in Blender to create blood? Granted, it was for a bloody nose, not for a severed limb…
I won’t say that i don’t like watching the occasionally stupid ultra-violent types of flicks that exist lately. I loved Kill Bill and Ichii the Killer… But REAL violence… even filtered through TV, makes my stomach turn. I can’t watch that Ultimate Fight stuff and things like that. Even boxing sort of turns me off. I think it’s used best in films where the violence is really necessary to ‘get’ the movie. Saving Private Ryan, Children of Men, Schindler’s List… You can’t make a film like those without violence, and often extremely graphic violence.
Blender noob violence should be fine, tho 
Jeepster, I have a pic of an early face in my other thread, Human Head… sort of. You should look at that and give me advice on making a better head.
