I have never attempted any 3d modeling before.
so being stupid and bloody minded i have started a small WIP project. I decided to model a small dart like spaceship.
The design looks quite unique and it could become a great ship; but, my fear is that, this project might be too difficult and complex for a first timer. You might not have the skills to tackle this kind of project.
UV’s quite often are the last things done. Mainly cause if you modify the mesh at all after applying the UV map it will stretch the map around the edges and such causing distortion and undesired effects. I would recommend looking up some hard surface modeling videos on YouTube they are really informative for the most part CGCookie has a couple on there. Also maybe check out Andrew Price’s beginner series he did that involves making a doughnut, cup, and saucer it starts from the basics and delves into the little more complex. Shows you what possibilities are there. Not sure if links are allowed so I didn’t post any here but I am sure if you just do a search on YouTube for hard surface modeling in Blender they will be grouped in the main search results.
