[newbie] Can't go to edit mode

I am a newbie to blender. So where to start… with the tutorial on the blender page. So i did start to build the castle as describe on http://www.blender3d.org/_media/education/quickstart/Building_Castle.html.

Can could create the towers and the walls. I now am at the place where the gate should be created. Fot this a piece of the wall is seperated and moved to layer 2. So far so good.

I did go to layer 2 and i need to “Enter edit mode and select the top vertices using Box”. The problem is that i can’t go to edit mode.

What am i doing wrong here?

You switch to EDIT mode with the TAB button.

All other times i can go to edit mode with tab. If going to edit mode (before all this step) there is a small button with a triangle with 3 vertices (?) will go selected (this button can also be selected with the mouse for going to edit mode.

But at this step nothing happens. I can’t go to edit mode. Not by the TAB buttons, nog by mouse on that small button.

Uhhhmmmm… I don’t understand, why you can’t go in edit mode… Maybe when you change to the layer 2, your object isn’t selected…

You just select your object, by placing the mouse cursor on it and pressing the Right Mouse Button… Then you must press the “Tab” button on your keyboard and Voila!!!

Welcome to Edit mode!!!
