greetings
let say I create a cube
still in edit mode is press [s-key] then hold down the middle mouse button
then drag in the direction I want
problem is I only seem to be able to scale in one direction
and Blender only “occasionaly” allows me to scale along the other axis
what am I missing

make sure you push S when your mouse is away from the object. kove it towards the object to shrink, and away from the object to enlarge.

SKey = scale object or object/child or objects joined.
sKey+MMB = scale in the direction that you are dragging.

let me try again
if I do s-key + mmb and drag along the x axis in top view then the cube will scale along that axis
but if I do s-key + mmb and drag along the y axis the cube still scales along the x axis
still confused

just change view w/ numpad, it will only scale on the “left to right axis”, but if youre in front or side view and you scale it, it will still scale “left to right” as you see it, and when you return to top view, it will have scaled how you saw it. hard to explain, but pretty much use different views to sclae in different directions. . .
