As a newb to Blender and to 3D modelling in particular I have a need to make a few starship models using only triangles. Can this be done with blender? Any tuts that may cover this type of point by point or triangly only obj creation?
thanks!
You could make it from quads first then select all the quads and press CTRL-T and all would be made into triangles.
Haven’t seen any. Blender has a “convert to tris” tool, so you could just model normally and convert to tris when you’re done?
CRTL-T brings up a Track menu. and the select menu doesnt seem to have a triangle option. INfact my select menu differs from the docs as well. I am apparently doing something wrong. As a test I just want to convert the defualt cube that comes up on app laod into trianlges only to test with my java app.
Right, Ctrl+t brings up a track menu when you’re in object mode. When you’re in edit mode it does the convert to tris operation. It’s not a select option, it’s a mesh option:
Mesh>>Faces>>Convert Quads to Triangles.
Oh yes: it only works on selected quads. Unselected quads won’t be affected.
Menus and hot keys will look and behave differently depending on the mode (Object, Edit, Pose, Weight Paint, etc, etc) you’re in. And may change based on the window your mouse cursor is in when you press the hot key.
press spacebar or w if you want anything then look through the menu’s. If still stuck bring up the help menu and look for the right key to place in the reference there.
