With the playoffs in the visible future, why not hold a little discussion?
A few questions to get us started:
-Who’s gonna come out on top in the West? The top three are neck and neck: No one looses, they all keep getting points. Who’s it gonna be? Detroit? Vancouver? Dallas? (Colorado and St. Louis ARE contenders, but a lot of stuff would have to go right.)
-Its fairly obvious as to who’s going to win the East. How do you think Ottawa measures up to the Western teams?
-Colorado risks loosing the division title for the first time in its history. (To Vancouver) Who will win the Northwest Division? The Canucks or the Avs? Does Vancouver qualify as one of the “elite” teams?
-Which team (in your opinion) has the best chance of winning the Cup?
My answers:
I think Detroit will come out on top. They are a point ahead of Vancouver, with two games in hand.
Ottawa measures up nicely.
Unfortunatly for thier record, I think Colorado is going to come out second best in this race. Vancouver keeps winning. Although the Avs HAVE gained tremendous ground, time is running out. A bad season start didn’t help them any.
That is a tough question. It is probably too early to speculate, but my personal fav is Van. High powered, but untested in the playoffs. Lost a 2-0 series lead to Detroit last season, by loosing 4 straight. (Partly because of a goal tending breakdown.) If Cloutier plays well, they have a chance. Their D is big, thier first line is (debatably) the best, they have secondary scoring, and they have youth. Thier only major handicap is inexperience. When they play with heart, though, they are definately among the best.
What do you think? I’d love to hear your opinions.
ottowa beat the leafs LOL.
We wiped tha floor them in the playoffs so many times its not even funny anymore. And this year we got gilmour and nolan. Think about it. NJ and philli could wipe the floor with ottowa. For some reason Toronto doesnt play that well against ottowa in the regular season but we manage to wipe the floor with them in the playoffs.
Wings in the West, and Sens in the East. I must admit that I’m a Leafer. Eddie is going to be red hot. They have to stay out of the box. Tucker is a psycho that might cause problems if they start acting like crybabies punching out players on the benches. Bettman is trying to clean the game up in order to make it more docile to increase tv audiences so the refs have probably been told to clamp down on 1970’s Flyers scrappy hockey style that the Leafs played against the Islanders last year.
Sorry, to those people who have no idea what we are talking about.
speaking of reffing, I have been fairly annoyed by the officiating of games this season. Is it just me, or are the refs more inconsistant than usual? It seems that they are (more often than they used to) making calls just to “balance the game.” I realize that all fans think their team is being unfairly treated, but I am trying to put bias aside here.
It will be interesting to see how the playoff games are officiated, with this new emphasis on obstruction. Usually the playoffs are pretty gritty, and I can’t see the refs calling a bunch of penalties on playoff games.
I hope the sens are able to stay in Ottawa. Anyone know the latest info on thier situation?
John Dellasano bought them for a song and dance. They will stay in Buffalo. BTW Theeth “les Canadiens sucent " et " Theodore est un guardien plein de trous” :-)Tie Domi for prime minister.
I agree on the first one, but not on the second. Sure, he’s paid a lot and haven’t done a lot this year, but just look at the hab’s defensive lines to understand why. In the game vs NY thursday, two islanders’ players were happily bullying him and Brisebois was just next to them, happily watching and not doing a thing. How do you think a goalie feels when his own teammates don’t even come to his defense…
