I have modeled a head with some hair. I use curve guides to shape the hair for each key frame. However during animation the hair does not move. What am I doing wrong?
Are your CurveGuides Parented to the head Bone? Look in the Blender Tests forum for tests with SoftBody hair and you’ll find example .blends.

I have parented the curve guide to the head (normal parent), but now the hair and the head both respond to the curve guide. I want the head to be static, only moving the hair. Should I chjoose curve from the menu while using the Insert Key to make the right key frame? Still haven’t got animated hair.
So I take it that you don’t have an Armature?
If so, don’t use a Curve Modifier (as that will affect the Mesh since it’s applied to the Mesh), use a Curve Guide from the Fields tab in F7, Physics Buttons. Then you’ll have to animate the Curves with RVK’s (I-Key in 3D window and choose Curve).

That’s a short tut on animating RVK’s on Curves.

Indeed I am not using an armature.
So far I do not have any success in animating the curve guide with with key frames (using I-key and choosing curve). Also nothing happens in in the IPO curve editor.
However I can change the shape of the hair with the curve guide, but this is not remembered.
I must be making a little mistake, but I don’t no which one.
For each of “Key 1” (and “Key 2” if you have it) in the IPO window you need to select it from the right-hand column (turns white) and then use Ctrl-LMB to add an IPO Curve. First frame will be at Y=0 and X=0 which will be the same as the Base Key. Second Ctrl-LMB (keyframe) will be on (lets say) frame 100 (four seconds) at Y=1 and X=100 which will have the CurveGuide animated to it’s full potential at frame 100. Do that for each CurveGuide.
Also nothing happens in in the IPO curve editor.
Maybe you only Keyframed the Base Key. That key registers the CurveGuide’s shape before any animation. Add another keyframe to get “Key 1”.

When I make my first keyframe (“key 1”) no flat curves shows up in the IPO curve editor as is the case with key framing a mesh object.
Also when you key frame the location of an object you get the curves LocX, LocY and LocZ automatically. What should I choose from the right-hand column in case of curve guides?
To see the IPOs for curve RVKs/AVKs, you should be in Shape mode in the IPO editor, just as with shape keys for meshes.
That shape mode helps.
I think that my problem is that I shape the hair in edit mode with the curve guide and that in object mode the start situation remains.
So the hair changes only in edit mode and not in object mode. How can I solve this problem?
You need to create the key (I-key->Curve) in Object mode first, then edit it into the desired shape. It’s not a very intuitive process.
Many thanks, I made a little progress. Now I have two key frames (Key 1 and Key 2) in the IPO Curve Editor.
There still is no curve in the editor. But I can reproduce the hair shape I keyframed by selecting Key 1 or Key 2 in the IPO Curve Editor.
What do I have to do in addition to get the hair animated.(i.e. a curve in the IPO Curve Editor)?
See post #6 where I explained exactly that.

Many thanks Fligh and CD38 for your patience.
I have got my hair animation now.
