No automatic snapping on timeline?

If I have to choose between the timeline and the dope sheet, generally I choose the timeline because it has the transport buttons, like the go to start and end, previous or next keyframe, and the length of the scene with the current number. The dopesheet doesn’t have any of those.

But for the life of me I cannot understand why the timeline doesn’t have automatic snapping. I have wasted time on more than one occasion because some keyframes had ended up between frames, for which I don’t understand the purpose. Why would anyone want keyframes in between frames? But some keyframes ended up in the subframe space without me putting them there on purpose.

Checking the manual I see that there’s a shortcut, Shift+S, that brings the circular menu where I can choose to snap to frames, but it seems to be a manual thing.

Am I missing something? There’s no way to enable snapping in the timeline like you can in the dope sheet and everywhere else?

Maybe the timeline doesn’t require snaps because it’s not a feature for editing.

For blender 2.7, the timeline only displays the keyframe.
This feature has been changed to allow you to move keyframes from a specific version.
But this is for convenience, not for editing. It’s just very simple editing.

It’s a personal opinion, so I don’t know if it’ll be the exact answer.

Add…

blender has UI settings for animation editing.

Perhaps you should use markers that show up in all the areas, which would give you snapping into the timeline ( not much difference than Jump to Next Keyframe)…
Or set your animation space to something like this …where you open a window for the timeline, and then open another under that for your Dope sheet… then you could snap in the dope sheet and still maintain the areas you want from the timeline as a single bar on top…

There was nonsense here

Thanks guys, I appreciate the tips.
