Don’t know what I did but I don’t have a menu at the top of my Blender UI. What can I do? If I open a new version of Blender I get the same layout and I forget where the file is to delete so I can reset the UI. Thanks.
Change from the “user preferences” panel to the “info” panel.
Or in iconic terms, for other users stumbling upon this via forum search, completely unaware of the terms, click the small wrench icon topleft and click the “i” in the blue circle icon 
In the top left corner of your screen change the window type to Information. This should then put back the normal file menu. You can then use Ctrl+U to save the layout as default.
