No GPU in Preferences->"Compute Device"

Hey all,

I’ve just been looking online about ways to boost rendering performance. One of the tips is to try using the GPU instead of the CPU.

Great, I go to user preferences->system->compute device and… no GPU.

Now I’m a total noob, so is there something I have to change/add? I’m using Blender 2.71

Well, what kind of GPU do you have in your machine? Nvidia? ATI/AMD? Intel?
Blender uses CUDA for GPU computing and that’s basically a Nvidia-only technology.

Yeah… I’ve just found the documentation on it. I have and AMD r9 270X lol.

Oh well. Guess I’ll just have to be patient… Or beg the wife to let me have a ‘Blender Render’ build. lol
