No longer able to rotate 3D view. Blender 4.02

Hi I’m no longer able to rotate my camera. Zoom and Pan work just fine. I’m using the Industry Compatible keymap. This feels broken. Any ideas?

In the keymap prefs something definitely seems messed up. It looks correct, Rotate View3D is set correctly by default to Alt + LMB. But it doesn’t work. If I then manually assign it to Alt+LMB, it changes to say “Middle Mouse” in the keymap, which is wrong. But then Alt + LMB works in 3D view. So I can get it to work, but this feels broken and hacky.

Check the preferences. In the Input section, see what the setting is for Emulate 3 Button Mouse.

You can change it between Alt and OS-Key (the Command key on the Mac). I changed mine to OS-Key at some point, as Alt-LMB was clashing with a different operation (I can’t remember what now). I didn’t adjust anything in the Keymap section relating to viewport rotation.

I do use the default Blender key mapping though. You lose some useful shortcuts with the ‘Industry Standard’ mapping.

I looked into this and mine is set to emulate a 3 button mouse using “Alt”

Sorry this is feeling more and more broken. If I restart blender I’m able to rotate the camera view. If I enter edit mode and go back to object mode, view rotation is now broken.

Well, not sure what was happening but I fixed it after doing a full factory reset + resaving the default preferences

Notice in the Preferences that at the top of the Keymap window there is a + sign for you to add your own version. Add a new one and edit that. Then you can go back to the standard keymap settings without having to do a restore default…
…and you can swap between the two versions when you are trying to work out what has gone wrong.

Hey, I have the same problem since Blender 4.2. Zoom, selection and everything else works as before. Only rotating the 3D viewport has stopped. There sometimes seem to be a slight rotation, just for a degree, but then nothing.
It did work flawless with Blender 4.1, see settings below.
I already deleted Blender and the complete /Library/Application Support/Blender folder and did a clean reinstall, but this did not help.

Emulate 3 button Mouse with OS-Key activated

custom Keymap with setting for 3D ViewRotate View to Mouse with key combination Shift + Right Mouse

If I press the Shift key, the status bar shows the option for the right mouse button as Rotate View, just as before.

Any help appreciated.

Edit: The default keymap lasso select also does not work. It seems like blender does not recognise the Right Mouse Button is pressed in combination with additional keys like Shift, CTRL of CMD key.

Nevermind, I think I found a solution.

Within the custom Keymap with setting for 3D ViewRotate View to Mouse with key combination Shift + Right Mouse I have to set the action from Any to Click. Now it rotates.
